She only has 200 points to defend till Quebec City. One win an Wimbledon and one win at the U.S. Open. She can still make it.

^^ that's not including Eastbourne though because she has 200 from Wimbledon/USO last year. But it's true she has a period of nothing to defend before she has a LOT to defend

Back with Pavs in doubles now much prefer that team. They drew Aoyama/She who must not be named in the first round though

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

She will need a good US Open Series and US Open, both for her season and to lighten the pressure a bit before the fall, seeing as how well she played at the end of last year.

Lucie is third up on Centre Court tomorrow. I would be shocked if she gets her first win over Petra on grass. She and Pavlyuchenkova sadly lost their first doubles match 10-8 in the third (Niculescu strikes again....), so she won't be going into Wimbledon with a ton of wins on grass. At the end of the day grass isn't her surface and probably will never be, so I'm not sweating her results here too much.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Heartbreaking loss ONCE again against a top 10 player. Saved 3 MPs, including 6-1 5-3....then 40-15 at 5-6 in the third...went up 4-2 in the TB then didnt win another point. Again....this year sucks for that.

This is just frustrating. Proud of her for getting to a third set tie break in the end, but that choke at the end...tragic. Hope she gets a decent draw at Wimbledon, though I'm not counting on it.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Same old story

Close match with Kvitova. But Lucie can`t win the important points. Frustrating 6-7 in 3rd set

Lucie simply lacks the mental strength. Sad but true

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Bummer. I read she didn't seem too fazed by the loss. Maybe she feels more confident on grass since she pushed Kvitova as far as she did. Still, it sucks. Wimbledon will be very dependent on the draw.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Who wants to make the thread? She got Goerges R1 and Hercog/Ormachea R2, Cibulkova (possible Niculescu) R3. Hate it tbh. I dont like seeing most of those players anywhere near her.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

^ I disagree with you. I think this is a GREAT draw-- she's in the weakest section. She is 1-2 against Julia, but they haven't met on grass, and Julia hasn't played since the FO. There's so many possible upsets in this section, but if things go her way, she could potentially get to the 4th round.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

That may be true if she was good on grass, but she's pretty bad on it, particularly early in Wimbledon when the courts are still very green and slick, they play much lower and faster and she has trouble with her movement. She's very vulnerable to just about anyone early on and if Goerges randomly finds form again she could be in trouble, and I know she would hate trying to deal with Hercog's slicing on grass. We'll just have to see how ready she is.

That match with Petra wasn't that bad in my opinion Goerges during every match has a weaker moments, therefore I think Lucie has quite big chance to defeat her I would be more afraid 'bout Hercog...

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

If she plays well, this is a great draw. But she struggles so much on grass, I'm not getting my hopes up. Lucy did well when I made the thread at the French, but I don't think I should test my luck and make it again.

It took her a set and a half to find her ground game, once she did it was much better so hopefully that means she found her 'grass feet' but who knows, wimbledon courts will be much fresher. The major positive was her serve because she was cutting her leftie serve so well it was basically going sideways. Perfect serve for grass and it would expose the weaker BH of Goerges so hopefully she maintains that.
