Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

She really did, which is a shame. If that FH at 1-1 BP had gone over maybe things would have been different but alas, can't change that now. She's playing well this year but still lacks that 1 big result

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

So what's her next torunament? Stuttgart? It's a tough field this year. She still needs one more person to WD before getting into the MD. Last time I remember Safarova playing qualifying was Rogers Cup 2009.

LUCIE SAFAROVA!!

Madison Brengle!!
Tsvetana Pironkova, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Lauren Davis, Petra Kvitova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Timea Bacsinszky, Madison Keys, Kaia Kanepi, Klara Zakopalova, Agnieszka Radwanska

Elena Dementieva - Always my number 1 2012 FITD Olympic Gold Medal Champion!

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

She won't play qualifying because of Fed Cup, and she should get in unless the 2 top 20 wildcards are taken...so it should be fine I think.

Yes, exactly! I agree completely with that. It will get there, I think. She has tp be satisfied with her level of play.

Really hoping Lucie does not have to play qualies... I also really wish she'd enter Rome instead of that dumb tournament in the Czech Republic. She could get so many points there!

She should definitely be satisfied with how she is playing, she is definitely in better form than a lot of the top 20. She just hasn't got that open draw or that breakthrough win for the year to capitalise on that form and jump up the rankings. That said, she has very little to defend from now until after RG. Only the 140 points from Prague.

I agree with you though, she's played it twice now and won it twice, she's done her duty to it. It hasn't proven to be the best preparation for her in terms of RG so far.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

I'm liking Lucie's form atm...the only strange loss she has had this year was to Morita in Auckland at the start of the year. Needs a good draw now, and she can make some noise.

We have to wait and see, 1 top 20 WC was taken but not another one yet so she might get in

Errani to lead Italians on day one in Ostrava

By Kirsten Webster

OSTRAVA, CZECH REPUBLIC: Sara Errani will spearhead the Italian challenge against Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova following a Willy Wonka style Easter egg draw for the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group semifinal in Ostrava.

The team captains from both nations were asked to choose four Easter eggs from a basket, with Sara Errani finding the lucky golden ticket underneath the wrapper to determine Saturday’s running order.

The world No. 6, Petra Kvitova will then take to the court against the in-form rising star, Camila Giorgi, who reached her first Tour final in Poland just last week.

The reverse singles matches will be played on Sunday, with Kvitova playing Errani prior to Safarova against Giorgi.

The potentially deciding doubles match sees the Italian veteran Roberta Vinci alongside Karin Knapp against Andrea Hlavackova and Klara Koukalova.

This semifinal tie at the Cez Arena pits the world’s top two ranked women’s teams against each other with Italy and the Czech Republic having shared the Fed Cup title between them for the last five years.

With home advantage, the Czech Republic camp is quietly confident of upsetting the defending champions – especially as the matches will be played on the team’s favoured hard court surface.

Czech Republic’s Captain, Petr Pala says it could prove critical on Sunday. “I hope it will be the difference because when we play in Italy they always prepare a nice clay court surface for us, so now its our turn to prepare our surface. But these players can play on any surface – I think and I hope that it will give us a small advantage”.

The Italian doubles player, Roberta Vinci, is weary of the surface advantage, having lost to Czech Republic in the same arena just two years ago. “They play better on this court, of course. We played in Palermo last year on clay and we won and we lost here two years ago on the same surface, so yes, they play good. But you never know!”

Petra Kvitova is the highest ranked player in the tie but she is planning on drawing on the local fans to help her through any tight spots she might encounter over the weekend.

“They are really important for us. We know they are there and still supporting us after every point if you lose or if you win - it is so beautiful to know it”.

Kvitova believes the strength of both nations in Ostrava this weekend will guarantee a great exhibition of women’s tennis and more generally women’s sport. “They are great opponents and we are so glad to play them. It's a great battle and a big challenge for everyone playing. We hope everyone who watches will enjoy it”.

The full draw is listed below:

Saturday

R1: Lucie Safarova (CZE) v Sara Errani (ITA)
R2: Petra Kvitova (CZE) v Camila Giorgi (ITA)

Sunday

R3: Petra Kvitova (CZE) v Sara Errani (ITA)
R4: Lucie Safarova (CZE) v Camila Giorgi (ITA)
R5: Andrea Hlavackova/Klara Koukalova (CZE) v Karin Knapp/Roberta Vinci (ITA)
Come on, Lucie !

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Lucie played lights out tennis to beat Errani 6-4 6-1...she was 1-3 down then went 11-2. She was just all over Errani in every aspect of the game...serve, return, rallies, groundstrokes...she was way too powerful. So many winners, surface helped a lot because Errani was just made to look completely powerless to it.

It was a great display from Lucie

EDIT: 33 winners, 26 errors...18/7 in the 2nd set
