Definitely not But Peng has not had a great year either so her mentality isn't great, the last few weeks saved Lucie big time, in so many ways

Nice win against Peng in Luxembourg R1, Lucie !

She has improved so much in last weeks. In next match she is favourite vs Beck too. Good luck

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Lost to Beck.

She must not be 100% yet, will be good for her to get rest before TOC.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

That is if she even qualifies, Stosur won an event last week and Wozniacki could win this one which would make it real difficult to qualify..Especially since rumor has it that several fed cup finalists are skipping out to play this event. 0_0

TBE twittered:

Eggy ‏@TheBoiledEgg
Safarova lost 4/6 in 3rd. No Sofia for her then

Not sure if that's really the last word...maybe someone could ask him directly.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Even though I'm so happy for her fall run it's only fitting that her final loss of the season would be to a player that really captures the essence of her overall season.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

I'm not bothered about TOC, I think Lucie is already in off season mindset. I had a feeling coming into this event that she would lose early because she just played a lot, I think she put everything into those 3 tournaments and she ended up getting sick, so it's no surprise at all to me that she was a little flat this week.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Yeah the TOC is not that big a deal now. Good thing is a good chunk of her points won't come off till the end of next season. She has all year to make some ground up, especially with a good run at a slam.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Yeah originally I just wanted 1 good result post USO to end the season and maybe get seeded...she got 3 and looks pretty set for a seeding given she defends nothing in the first week of the year.

I thought the Luxembourg surface didnt suit her tbh and in the first round you could tell she wasn't quite there mentally like she had been in the weeks prior...just a little sloppy. Plus her coach wasn't there either so it was just obvious to me it wouldn't go that well. I dont think we can be disappointed, Pavs passed her in the rankings but she's still 29, which is 28 with Bartoli gone so considering it could have been out of the top 50 a few weeks ago, it's been great.

Like you said though, it did top off what was kind of a blah year except the last 3 tournaments

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Lucie

Beck was playing really well, but Lucie choked a lead in 3rd set away I think

Anyway I hope Lucie continues this current form in Australia next year

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Wait, no Sofia for GOAT?!?!?!?

So unfair that title less losers like Ivanovic get WCs while champions like Lucie "don't qualify". Oh well, hopefully Lucie can pick up where she left off next year.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

According to Wikipedia the qualifiers of Sofia are:

Ivanovic (WC)
Halep
Stosur
Vesnina
Cornet
Šafářová
Hantuchova
Pironkova (WC)

So is she qualified or not?

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

That's assuming Vinci, Kiri, and Pavs go to fed cup final, which is not definite and I'm pretty sure Pavs said she will play Sofia

Wozniacki might win Luxembourg which would further complicate matters.
