Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Mostly I'm shocked that she held when she choked at 4-3...she played awful points but then GOATed to save the BPs. Just amazing after the year that she's had, she finally wins a title. She just saved her ranking big time, but more than that she saved herself, because now she'll be really happy and confident in her game again.

Long time coming just makes it long time deserved

She was having an awful year when she won Forrest Hills too! So happy for her. She deserved it. This is great for her confidence. I bet it feels like a monkey off her back at this point.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Luxembourg might be a stretch. I dont know of any other International event that attracts such a strong field. The tournament of champions though would be a great way to end the year on a high note and seeing how the Czechs are not in the Fed Cup final this year she will probably play there.

SAFAROVA SAVORS WINNING FEELING

Lucie Safarova found out last week that the only thing that tastes better in Québec City than a crêpe is silverware.

Safarova Savors Winning Feeling
Lucie Safarova
It may not come with a nutritionist's seal of approval, but a crêpe a day proved to be the winning recipe for Lucie Safarova in Québec City.

Fuelled by her typically Québécois diet, on Sunday Safarova defeated Marina Erakovic in the final of the Challenge Bell to end a five-year wait for a WTA title.

"I've had crêpe through the week here - they are amazing - and I think I'll have another to celebrate," Safarova said after the final. "The crêperie here is my lucky place!"

Since her last title, at Forest Hills in 2008, the Czech had finished runner-up on five occasions - including at Québec City in 2009 - and the nerves were understandably jangling as she neared the finishing line.

"Yes, I was nervous at the end because it's been a long time since my last WTA title so I really wanted to get this win," she added. "It has been too long and I hope I don't have to wait as long for the next one!"

After finishing 2012 at a career-high ranking of No.17, this campaign has been a troublesome one for the 26-year-old, with wins proving hard to come by.

"This year the results haven't been showing that much," Safarova, who had won just 14 main draw matches prior to last week, said. "I had a bad start to the season, losing some three set matches against players I probably should have beaten. So I'm really happy things have started to turn around."

While Safarova admits her slump in form was in part self-inflicted, the increasingly competitive nature of the circuit also played its part.

"When you see the draws, there are so many great players nowadays so it always seems like it's going to be so tough," she said. "To be around the Top 15 or Top 20, you have to be healthy, to play well, to get a bit of luck - everything has to click together, so it's not every season that you can stay at this level."

Revitalized by her showing in Canada, Safarova heads to the Far East for the final leg of the season with a spring in her step. "We are always trying to improve things here and there, some small technical things, but you cannot change everything. Just little by little.

"I still have some big tournaments coming up, like Tokyo and Beijing, so I hope to get some good results there and finish the season strong. I'm looking forward to trying to keep playing like this and I hope my best tennis is still to come."
Nice article...I hope she can pick up some more points to finish the year off and maybe sneak into seedings for the AO. Qualifying for Sofia would really help that.

Re: Lucie Safarova Cheering Thread - Volume 2

Lucie's Q is of course Hercog easily the toughest of the qualifiers. I know Lucie has won 3 in a row against her, but removing the 6-0 6-0, they've been really close I hope she isn't a bit flat after Quebec

Interesting one...Polona has been very good during her qualifying matches. We'll see what Lucie can do here.
