Lucie at Stockholm

I cannot see Lucie getting past Vera Dushevina. But I'll be rooting for her. Not a great draw, but your draw does not matter if you cannot get past your first round. At least she has no points to defend.

Sania Mirza (8) vs. Emilie Loit
Tatiana Perebiynis vs. Iveta Benesova
Vera Dushevina vs. Lucie Safarova
Yanina Wickmayer vs. Agnes Szavay

For Safarova's name on the website, they have some listed facts about her. Find which one of the facts has an error. It's pretty obvious.
  • Lucie startet to play tennis at the age of 3.
  • Her favourite surface to play on is clay.
  • When she is not playing tennis she likes to play basket ball, ping pong and swim.
  • Last year she won against three top ten players in the same tournament, Roland Garros. One of them was the top seeded Justine Henin.

Re: Lucie at Stockholm

Well Lucie and Cetkovska beat Dushevina and Makarova in doubles 64 62 so hopefully Lucie can do the same to Vera in singles.

Well it's good practice for doubles. Isn't she playing with Cetkovska at the Olympics?

That was a really good match for Lucie. I don't remember seeing a single point that Justine won.

Lucie's the best.

And she just broke Dushevina's serve, which is the first time in 3 matches (since her last win) that she's done that, I believe.

Lost again. She'll play Olympics and USO, but please, after that I hope she finally takes some weeks off to try and figure out this mess.

Re: Lucie at Stockholm

It's nice to hear from Lucie. Hopefully she can keep smiling. And she's still in the doubles!

You never know, 2009 may be a great year for Lucie.

Lucie is really sad about the situation too... She practice really hard... and hopes to be back soon... She is more disappointed about the situation than you all can imagine.

Re: Lucie at Stockholm

Stockholm Interview

What do you think about yesterday's match?

In recent times it has not gone so well for me as a tennis professional, and the beginning of the year I was injured a lot and have not been able to come back right. Yesterday's match, I would say that first set was very smooth, but that I did a lot of unnecessary errors. That is my biggest problem right now that I am doing too much wrong.

What is your opinion on tomorrow's double?

See, we played well in the first round. So we will see if we can repeat the achievement.

What do you think about doubles new rules? (no ad and super tiebreak)

I think it is better, because a singles player who has been working in single matches can also play doubles matches for the matches will be shorter then. But on one side, it is difficult for doubles speicalist, for no ad can be a little lottery but for the spectators, it might be good for it offers single players the opportunity to play double.

What do you think about the competition and Stockholm, because it is the first time here?

I am surprised that it is so hot here, not even in the Czech Republic, it has been so warmly. I like the city and the facility here is very fine so I would like to come back next year.

What had you for the goal at the beginning of the year and how the objectives have changed over the year?

I ended last season in 22 place, so I had an own goal to remain at that location, or go up a few places in the ranking, but right now, so it is not so good for me so I have set a new goal to remain in top 100 since each season can not be excellent.

You were of course set-aside for the Olympic Games. How do you see that?

I fly there on Tuesday, and it is the first time I was selected. I yearn to get there and see how the atmosphere and the mood is there, because it is the largest sporting event.

Have you had any special preparations for the Olympics?

As it is for each tournament.

And it is?

That's because when you play a tournament get focused Monday on the competition, so it is 3 hours of tennis plus every day.

What is your preparation for the matches?

When practicing Monday just a little easy and resting and trying to gather force for the matches.

How does your distance relationship with Tomas Berdych?

I must say that it works well. We have played a lot of competitions and with today's development with cell phones and e-mail, so we often speak.

Do you have any advice for young juniors?

To them practicing hard and to them think it's fun. Today it is a difficult sport for the competition is great but it is a beautiful sport and the feeling of winning, it is worth it.

What's on your mind when you throw up the ball?

What else than to beat a aces!

Sorry my translation not great

Re: Lucie at Stockholm

That was a pretty good translation.

Lucie's goal is to stay in top 100. I guess it is the most realistic. Good to hear that she's still training hard though.
