Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

Is anyone else having the same fears? During the latter stages of 2006 she suffered quite a few injuries, and after having such a successful start to 2007 her year trailed away due to injuries once again. And so far in 2008 it’s been more of the same; her Australian Open campaign was ruined and she was forced to pull out of the Fed Cup, both due to injuries.

She’s only recently turned 21 but has already suffered plenty of setbacks. She has so much potential and I love watching her aggressive style of play. She has the potential to be a top 10 player and with her fearless style and powerful groundstrokes she’s always a threat to beat the top players. However I’m starting to fear we may never see her best because she can’t seem to stay fit for too long before suffering another injury.

Re: Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

If she can get fit and stay fit for a while, she can gain momentum and get better as a player. I think if she can start stringing together some good matchs and start playing consistently well, she'll become fitter and have less problems with injuries.

Re: Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

I realized this at the end of the last year. With so many injuries so often it's not very likely she can work on her game and keep improving. I am conciliated with it to tell the truth.

She should be healthy to play Doha and Dubai according to what she said during Davis Cup where she was with Berdych. But I don't expect much.

Re: Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

she won´t play Doha for 95%, because she could only start yesterday to practice again and if she would play Doha she has to fly there friday. But Dubai for sure (if she stay´s healthy)...

Re: Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

That's a smart decision from Lucie. She needs to really practice and get into top shape. That way, when she hits the courts, she'll be ready to win and can string together a bunch of matches.

Re: Concerned with Lucie’s Durability?

I'm glad Lucie is practicing again, and almost as glad she's not rushing right back into tournament play.

Now that her big points tournaments have passed and she lost the points, it's way more important for her to simply rebuild her fitness in a way that allows her to play more consistently. Her overall game will benefit if it happens.

Lucie runs like the wind, but sadly that may be a reason why she is so injury-prone. She reminds me of Iroda Tulyaganova in that way - Iroda was so promising when she was Lucie's age, but her career has been decimated by injuries. I sincerely hope that won't happen to Lucie, but it's the gamble I took when I inducted her into my Eternal Fanship.

Lucie is such a joy to watch, and tennis needs her supreme talent and flairsome power.

I know!! Some of the commentators (Fernandez, Drysdale) said Lucie was like the next Kim Clijsters because she was very nice, kind to the press, and always was plagued with injuries. Sigh! I hope I'm not jinxing these players.
