Australian Open 2007

Francesca Schiavone ITA (14) v Sandra Kloesel GER
Lucie Safarova CZE v Alberta Brianti ITA

Laura Pous Tio ESP v Anastasiya Yakimova BLR
Sofia Arvidsson SWE v Ai Sugiyama JPN (23)

Good draw for Lucie IMO. If she plays well she could make the 4th Round.

Go Lucie. I don't think she could have asked for a better draw

Cheer loudly

I think it is a good draw. But Lucie must go one match at a time. Depends on her fitness to I think, her leg was still taped in Hobart.

Good Luck Lucie

Re: Australian Open 2007

Lucie Safarova def. Anastasiya Yakimova 6-3 ret.

I saw most of this match (or rather this set). But I wasn't watching it really closely. Lucie played well and was playing aggresive. I think her opponent retired due to a back problem or something.

Next up is the defending champion Amelie Mauresmo ...

Re: Australian Open 2007

I've been to all her singles games and she is playing extremely well. She is improving with every outing and I'm confident she can put up a good fight against Mauresmo. She hit 20 winners in the first set of today's match; that's an unbelievable amount. She is serving very well and her groundstrokes are the best I can remember. She is just hitting winner after winner and on both the forehand and backhand side. Through to the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam; that is a great result.

Re: Australian Open 2007

Awesome result for Lucie
Hopefully I will get to see her match with Mauresmo on tv.
Nice boost back up the rankings Hopefully Lucie can keep her form up!
Although not liking the look of the heavy taping on her thigh, hopefully she has a few weeks off after Melbourne.

Re: Australian Open 2007

I’ve been to all three of Lucie’s matches and she is simply playing superb tennis. Her first set in her first round match was a tad rusty however she has just improved with every set. She blew her opponent away in the end and it was a very convincing performance first up. Next was Schiavone and she played a brilliant match. Despite the fact Schiavone was seeded and undoubtedly the favourite, Lucie was dominant in all facets of the game. I noticed Berdych was at the game too cheering her on. He looked to be having a great time watching, and why not considering how well Lucie is playing.

Now her 3rd Round match was a stop-start affair. The game was delayed at 2-2 due to rain however Lucie was clearly the superior player and you knew as soon as play resumed she would be able to take control. When they finally came back on court she produced a scintillating set of tennis. She hit 20 winners!. She really is hitting the ball as cleanly as I've seen, and she is hitting a huge amount of winners from both the forehand and backhand. Her beautiful left handed serve is also being used to perfection to set up points. I would also like to see her approach the net more often as she is a very good vollier and basically wins every point when she comes in.

I had a great time watching her matches and she is playing beautifully. I took a few pics that I will post a little later. Making the 4th Round at a Grand Slam is a terrific effort and I am confident she can put up a great fight against Mauresmo tomorrow.
