Talking New Scoring pts rule will be implemented from the next tournament onwards...

Minor change to the scoring pts system:

Unranked players vs their ranked opponents will no longer have a (200-1), but rather the figure will be reduced through the introducing of the "20 point rule for unranked players who in essence will be given a ranking of somewhere in the 500's."

Hence "200-1's" are unlikely to arise anymore. Under the new rule as of current, #1 Henin-Hardenne vs an unranked player will be (1-191) (as of the week of Indian Wells 04), similarly instead of Kostanic vs an unranked player in Indian Wells 04 being 1-200, it will be 2-54.

This rule was implemented over queries of the tournament losing it's "charm," it also now ensures there is a genuine chance for players that may have been completely out of contention of the tournament to at least have a chance to battle for some rankings pts rather than being a massive 200 pts behind.

This minor rule will be implemented from Miami 2004 onwards.

The 20 points also will given for players who have ranking with points less than 20.

why?

i can understand that people who didn't tip the player for 200 can't catch up, but that's their own fault.

Cibulkova. Cepede Royg. Konta. Safarova. Kvitova. Peng. Bacsinszky. Osaka. Wozniacki. Puig.

yeah but its kinda not fair for ppl to be completely out of it due to one small pick. the new rule is good. 54 points certainly is catchable and at least ur not out of contention. i got the 200 points in indian wells this week, if i hadnt i wouldve just given up. its a good rule good job spikey

I agree

It's a little stupid 200-1 too many pts to cover IF you didn't pick/didn't have time!

BUT actually I also agree with 200-1 pts...so, I'm in the middle

With this system, we can reduced number of players after round (IF they missed to pick the good one), so this is the way to eliminate a lot of ppl in the same event!
