From this season, the Race will have a double purpose, besides of course showing the year’s standings.
Singles top 16 and doubles top 8 at the end of the season will qualify for the off-season Year-End Championships!
After each leg the Race leaders in singles and doubles will qualify for the 2009 World Championships! Also the 2 singles finalists will get in, for a total of 24 contestants. If the Race #1 has already qualified in the previous legs, the available spot will be given to the #2, and so on with the next in line. The usual 4 wild cards will be assigned at the end of the season, and a lot of spots will probably be left open because of withdrawals.
Singles top 16 and doubles top 8 at the end of the season will qualify for the Year-End Championships!
This brand new event will be played during the off-season and will feature a Round Robin stage with 4 groups of 4, and top 2 from each group qualifying for the quarterfinals.
Results will be decided using the past season values, picking randomly one of the 2008 eight legs for each match. This format should give a fair advantage to the best players of the seasons but at the same it enables everyone to win it; and the results for 2 posters meeting twice (Round Robin and final) can be different. I’ve made a lot of tests with the 2007 scores and one of them will be posted in the new YEC thread to show all the details.
