Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 5.

Seems she might have come to her senses and has withdrawn.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Hopefully it's more preventive than serious.

Wise decision for both US open and future.

Smart decision. Let's light our candles that Vika heals well and doesn't pick up another injury in her next match. Either way, her physical conditioning has to improve.

Smart move :eek.. I think playing New Haven could be a good idea if she's healthy by then, but only if she somehow is, which is hard to say.

I don't think she should play New Haven.

She needs to be healthy as a #1 priority, and I don't think she is that desperate for matches.

Yeah I finally watched the Congi match at Eastbourne last night and Vika played quite well actually, but Congi just made random explosive winners too often. Presumably if healthy Vika could do fine without a lot of match practice…

I'm curious what does everyone think about her state right now? She is blaming the knee, but it does seem a bit strange as that fall a) didn't look very bad, and b) didn't look like it would've hurt her knee. I guess there's no point taping it/wearing a brace if it didn't get hurt and some tendon/ligament problem isn't necessarily noticeable on the exterior. However, her thigh seemed to be a concern before that injury (and I'm wondering if that contributed to her fall in the first place) so I'm wondering if she's kind of masking that, or at least how bad that injury is. None of them seem as serious as her foot, but her legs continue to have big problems. If I'm right it was right foot, left thigh, then right knee .

victoria azarenka @vika7
Unfortunately I won’t be playing in Cincinnati this year. But I had to make the best decision for me. I will definitely be back next year

Hopefully this decision give some extra time for Vika to heal her injuries and rest for the US Open. In her recent matches I think she played very well vs. Alizé Cornet in the first set before the fall happened. Unfortunately injuries seem to be very common problem among the WTA players including Na Li and Simona Halep. Besides even relatively healthy players seems to wear various kinds of bandages in their shoulders, thighs or knees.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 5.

Brief interview on her withdrawal from Cincinnati:

Quote:
QUESTION: When did you decide to pull out?
AZARENKA: Well after my last match in Montreal, which was definitely a very hard fought game to play, I tried to recover as much as possible. I started to feel a little bit better and did everything I could, but it’s just not enough time for me to feel good to play a full match. I tried to practice, give it a rest and work with my team. It’s just not enough time.

QUESTION: Did you try to practice this morning?
AZARENKA: Yeah, I wanted to give it my best shot until the last moment and try to do the best job as possible. I tried to hit today in the morning and it wasn't feeling good enough.

QUESTION: Is it tough to walk away as defending champion?
AZARENKA: Definitely. It's a great oturnament. I really enjoy my time here. I'm really grateful for the people who come out and unfortunately I won't be playing this year. But I will definitely be back for many more years. This is probably the biggest disappointment, to not be able to play in front of this amazing crowd. This tournament has done an incredible job in making improvements, so it's unfortunate but it's the best decision for me.

QUESTION: The US Open is coming up. What are your thoughts on the next couple weeks?
AZARENKA: I'm going to get more treatment and get more work done and should be good for the US Open. But I had to make this decision. I feel strongly that it's the best for me at this moment.

Good move I guess. This year is just a total catastrophe. She can just skip this whole 2014 season though because it's really not like as if she has a ton to defend after the US Open. I really hope this thoroughly motivates Victoria though to take her career back in hand 500%. Her Redfoo sh-t and partying desires have totally derailed her.

I don't understand why her lack of points to defend post-USO means she shouldn't play tournaments?

Anyway, this is good. Moving freely and feeling comfortable playing her shots will help her game. Hopefully 7-10 days off while getting treatment will sort things out.
