All the top players in the WTA ranking have confirmed their participation in the Mutua Madrid Open, meaning it will once again enjoy the presence of the best female players on tour. Among them is the world number 1 and the champion of the last two editions of the tournament, Serena Williams, who returns to the Caja Mágica in search of a historic triple.

The remaining competitors in the women’s competition, headed by Li Na, two-time winner Victoria Azarenka and last year’s finalist Maria Sharapova, will be trying to end Serena’s reign in Madrid. Agnieszka Radwanska, the 2011 champion Petra Kvitova, the Danish Caroline Wozniacki, who reached the first tournament’s final in 2009, Serbian player Ana Ivanovic, and the Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, who has had an incredible season so far, reaching the final of the Australian Open, will also be present in Madrid.

There will be plenty of Spaniards in the draw too; Carla Suárez and Garbiñe Muguruza will go directly into the main draw thanks to their WTA rankings, and fellow members of the Spanish Armada Tita Torró, Lara Arruabarrena, Silvia Soler and Anabel Medina, who was the best Spanish woman in the tournament last year when she reached the quarters, will accompany them in the main draw after receiving a wild card from the organisers. In addition, Spanish players such as Lourdes Domínguez, Laura Pous and Sara Sorribes could join them if they make it through the qualifiers.
But as we know it is very difficult to say what will be Vika's actual fitness and health situation if she plays in Madrid...

I don't want to be anywhere near GM if she isn't (most likely am not going to be).

I understand her not being fit, but some of these other trolls...

Good luck Vika

"Two-time winner Victoria Azarenka" . Have I somehow missed two editions of this tournament ?

IDK what to think though . I'd love to see her back, but I pray she'll be ready .

Yeah, a correct answer would be that Vika is two-time runner-up in Madrid (2011 & 2012) and winner in doubles with Maria Kirilenko in 2011. Last year Vika was a finalist in Rome and semifinalist in Roland Garros, so if she is fit and free from injuries, she is not that hopeless on clay as some critics are willing to claim.

True. Darth Vika can achieve heights of mind-numbing fuckery excellence on any surface.

I like that they sticked to the truth and didn't include Radwanska in the "best in the world" picture. Despite the ranking .

I'm sure the needle on her fuckery meter is past full and all the way to epic.

Wasn't expecting her to be back so soon. Kinda nervous about this...

The Spanish version of the site says "la dos veces subcampeona Victoria Azarenka" (two-time runner-up). Apparently, the translator missed the "sub" in "subcampeona"...

Confusion will be my epitaph
