Juan Ceballos ‏@JuaniCeballos
Director de WTA Monterrey sobre Azarenka: "Tiene una lesión en un dedo. Tardará unos dos meses en recuperarse"

Google Translate: "He has a finger injury. Will take about two months to recover" ("dedo" is also "toe" according to the dictionary so that makes sense).

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 5.

Oh I have nerve damage in my foot between the toes. It hurts so bad I can´t play tennis for the next eight weeks. Runs around in high heels at Miami player party. Same shit Lisicki did when she cried about her ankle problems.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 5.

Btw judging from twitter Vika is getting cryotherapy.

victoria azarenka ‏@vika7 1h
I spend 1 minute in -110 C to make @lairdlife @gabbyreece proud #recoverygrind @fab99osteo giving me on the other side

I have heard about this before. I believe English Premier League clubs are beginning to use it to aid recovery and boost performance.

You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryotherapy.

Many different rich sports teams/athletes use it. NBA, football, rugby and I know Djokovic has used it before, which sparked a discussion whether it should be considered as a performance enhancer and therefore doping.

It's clearly some of the best treatment available, and Vika should be getting the best treatment available.

I am just reading an article on Cristiano Ronaldo getting one of these chamber's installed in his home .

I remember there was a photo of Bouchard in (I think) the off court photos thread which showed her sitting in one of these chambers/pools/whatever. Let's hope it helps Vika's recovery.

Yep, you're right. I remeber it, too.

From the Wiki-page: "The immediate effect of skin cooling and analgesia lasts for 5 minutes, but the release of endorphins can have a lasting effect, where the pains and signs of inflammation as found in blood tests remain suppressed for weeks."
Maybe it's the perfekt treatment for her. It seems that she's got a problem, which a normal medication can't solve it. Hopefully she will be ok soon!!

I still have my hopes for Wimbledon this year. I really wish that she can win that someday. The competition right now doesn't look solid either.

The clay season i don't have much hope for. Perhaps best just to see whatever matches she can get on clay without injury as good preparation.

The question is does that eliminate the cause of her problems? Seems more like it is just about numbing the pain.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. But I'd guess it's not the only treatment she gets.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 5.

I think it works by speeding up the natural process. Eg. Vika's injury is the sort of thing that naturally heals if you rest for weeks on end, but that's not very desirable for a professional athlete. The extreme cold speeds up the process by tricking the body to thinking you are in an extreme situation having to deal with such extreme temperatures, thus the body's immune system responds.

There are obvious other benefits to this outside healing injuries. I've heard people claim these chambers allow you to train at a level you normally wouldn't be able to, the benefit can allegedly last for a few weeks, because it accelerates normal body processes.
