Yeah I'm not writing her off, but I just don't think she will be as dominant this year. If nothing else, this is her biggest upset since Razzano so it shows other players to believe in themselves. Reehanna is VERY good, and I could see her peaking and winning at the upcoming three majors, but I can't see her winning eleven titles again. She's still the best at this point and played very well in the Brisbane final, but I think this won't be the last surprise loss we see and Vika is already very close to her when she plays well, so she has a good chance to catch up if she can stay healthy.
I agree. Serena's last two seasons have been so outstanding. I am not sure if she's going to be able to keep it up for a third one in a row. Atm she looks rusty, slow and very vulnerable (by her standards, and also accounting for the fact that she's coming from a back injury) Maybe she will shake it all off in the next months and will dominate as before, but either this could be the start of a gradual decline, we'll see, but it's sad that when her main (and almost only) opposition in the last two years, Sarin and Pova, are both struggling, Vika has been so unlucky to get injured so many times and has lost her fitness and form as a consequence. If Serena/Vika /Pova keep on struggling this season is going to be unpredictable. Seeing the state of the tour atm nothing will surprise me anymore, Cirstea winning a slam or something
but I think that there's a very reasonable chance for Vika, if
she gets healthy again, if not to take over from Serena, at least to get even closer than before. I mean, apart from Pova, who is there to stop her if she gets her best form back again ?
