Now he has gone public though it does change something. He got a good reception vs Olympiakos still at the weekend. Is he really going to get a good reception now? This latest stuff is basically a massive F U.
Yes it is to the fans, but with this "injury" and then the suspension he wouldn't be playing again until at least mid-september, after the transfer window closes. By which time he'll either be at another club, sent on holiday, or back in the team.
What about this 'injury'? These want away players miraculously getting injury after injury.
Yeah he's never been injured enough to miss a game while at liverpool (makes up for his suspensions!) yet now he tells management he can't travel to norway because he hurt his foot or something. And as soon as they've gone he starts up in the media, much like he did while in South America.
I'd rather he stayed, partly as a sort of punishment but also mainly because its very hard for us to attract top players. Given that we effectively have £40m+1 available should we choose to take it, if the club can
secure replacements soon then he can go, unlike a lot of fans I don't mind that much if he goes to arsenal, as long as they pay Cavani levels of cash for him. I don't think he would strengthen them that much, and last season his poorest performances came in european games. (he destroys the plodding defenders of 75% of PL sides but is less effective against the smarter ones in european teams). On the other hand if we can't get anyone in then the money is no use to us and we might as well gamble on persuading him to train and play properly.
WHat's going to happen with Rooney? The manchester rumour is that he's "not looking after himself very well" as a ploy to get himself sold...
