scoreline is harsh, but maria played better than her especially first set. enjoyed watching vika fight till the end, standing halfway to the service line against the strongest second serve on the game was awesome. things didn't really work for vika this tournament but her spirit was strong.

fanstastic amazing season. next year will be even better

Vika -- she should be proud. The season has been extremely fatiguing, she still made the SF escaping from a very complicated group having played the match of the year (?) against Kerber -- rest up and 2013 here we come.

Génie - Victoria - Kristina.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

Finally Sharapova able to confirm what the formbook demanded all week. She is really good indoors and on slow courts.

Hopefully Vika will hit injured next year. She just holds back way too much for somebody with her skill in regular matches. Yes her grinding can beat 90% of players all year, but the next step is to establish a high percentage at harder shots. Linz also hurt her in the regard that it was just too easy to win. She cannot rest on her #1 ranking like Wozniacki did. In a sense this loss will keep her sharp and motivated in the off-season.

I really really want to see her hit through the court more next year and attack the sidelines longline a bit more, when she has the openings. She tends to not really hit dtl, but always with a slight angle toward the middle of the court and with a little too much topspin. That just extends rallies and gives really good movers and hitters a chance to get back into rallies or pass her at the net, especially on slower courts.

That and her Adv serve are the biggest weaknesses, she can work on imho.

Great year overall. Shame about the US Open final. Probably the only regret she should have in an otherwise awesome year.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

It's a pity she couldn't be Maria, but that said, Maria's been playing very well this week so it's not terribly surprising.
Also, the more balanced their head-to-head is, the better for tennis in general; we need a proper rivalry.

I agree with Patrick in that the only blemish on her year has been that US Open final even though I don't think any of us thought she'd be that close. Outside of that the French Open was a disaster.

Hopefully this year just inspires her to work twice as hard next year as she'll have a ton to defend. I can't see Vika really focusing on the points race for number one though; she's much more about getting the win. Nevertheless, I'm extremely proud of the season she's had especially with her winning her first major. And women's tennis is finally getting its act together and we have a proper top three contenders and it's really freakin' awesome that our girl is one of those three.

Azarenka in good mood in presser, has laughing fit thinking about music track she cut with RedFoo featuring her grunting. Coming soon...

Dissolving into fits of laughter @Vika7 ends her year talking about a video and recording session with @redfoo. I'm getting old

Just so happy with what Vika showed this season. Incredibly proud of her for showing that she's the real deal, like we all believed from the moment we became fans. Sort of relieved this season is over, everything was starting to get a bit too messy in Vika's game for my liking, so now she can take a well-deserved long vacay and start improving her serve like she did in the previous off-season, I still think that if she had the same motion and thus served at least respectable, Vika's year could've been even better.

But yolo.

Vika on fitness: 'Think Agnieszka felt much worse than me. Saw her before match & we looked at each other & laughed hard. Said it all'
