Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

I remember that last year Vika flew straight after the Beijing final to Linz. She also had a "little chat" with umpire Kerrilyn Cramer in her first match vs Arantxa Rus there. Luckily it wasn't as bad as she had this year with Mariana Alves in Madrid. I think it is a wise decision not play more than 3 tournaments for the rest of season.

In this year it would be best to enjoy some rest after the US Open final, and then concentrate to Tokyo (main draw September 22 - 28; http://www.toray-ppo.co.jp/en/tournament/) and Beijing after that (http://www.chinaopen.com.cn/en/). If Vika plays in both of those tournaments, then there will two weeks break between Beijing and WTA Championships in Istanbul.

Otherwise we should remember how well Vika has played in this season despite her injuries. She is world #2 player even if she could not play full tournaments in Wimbledon, Indian Wells and Miami. Vika also played pretty good clay season when she was a finalist in Rome and semifinalist in Roland Garros. Last year she was also a semifinalist in Wimbledon and Summer Olympics, and we all know who cause those two losses on grass. What I am trying to say it that I am quite sure she will have good opportunities to win titles on clay and on grass in the future.

Finally, I think it is obvious that those injuries didn't affect only to her tour schedule, but they must have affected to her fitness as well. Vika's season didn't start only in Brisbane, but it feels like she made a comeback in Madrid and then again in Carlsbad.

Vika should play a good schedule to maintain her body. It was a wise decision not to play Linz this year. She looked exhausted in the YEC semis last year. Even though the injuries halted her progress this year(except that fluky Wimbledon fall), may be they were also a blessing in disguise for her.

I think Vika has been trying to peak in the later rounds of slams, remember when she used to start the first couple of rounds on fire and then fade? I think she feels now that she can play at 50% or less and still beat the players she'll face early on. That's what happened in new york this year (even not playing well her level was still better than cornet, ivanovic, hantuchova), at some point she may come unstuck however.

If there's one thing I'd like to see her work on its a variety of solid first serves and/or disguise on them. If she can hit spots in both boxes at 100mph that would be much more useful and safer than really adding power. What is hurting her recently is opponents camping out on her go-to first serves. I can see some progress in her second serve, it is reasonably quick, deep and very gradually gaining reliability.

I'm really hoping she can end the year on a high note.

As much as it personally pains me, skipping Linz was the right decision, she simply was way too burned out at the YEC last year. Another win over Serena in any of the remaining tournaments sure would be a fitting end to what has been a great season

Here are some screen captures from the official website: http://www.toray-ppo.co.jp/

The 2013 Toray Pan Pacific Open (30th edition)

http://www.toray-ppo.co.jp/en/player...e.php#Azarenka

http://www.toray-ppo.co.jp/en/player/

As we know Maria Sharapova (right shoulder injury), Na Li, Nadia Petrova (defending champion; left hip injury) and Jamie Hampton (left Achilles injury) don't play in Tokyo. Otherwise all the other top 40 players and two Japanese top names (Ayumi Morita & Kimiko Date-Krumm) as wild cards seem to be there.

Yes she likes Tokyo very much, I hope she can win it and get to the final of YEC and beat Serena one more time before ending this season.
Am I greedy?

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

End of last year was interesting. In Tokyo she basically withdrew after looking irretated and not well in the first match. In Beijing she played her best all season. Perhaps together with AO and Indian Wells. Not sure she played that good in any tournaments this year (yet).

It was fun to watch her play in Linz, but seemingly emptied her energy. The WTA finals seemed to be mostly about getting the season number one ranking. After that match against Kerber i think her chances to win were gone, and not sure what to make about the semi final loss. (She has no bussiness losing to Sharapova on hard courts ).

Well will be fun to watch this year as well, no injuries please.

Great chance to pick up another title . She's there early and properly prepared, no Serena, no Sharapova... final is pretty much a must imo.
