Before we go all doom and gloom maybe we should wait for more facts regarding his injuries, it actually doesn't sound all that bad thankfully.

Thanks for the translation. I saw a question mark after it so I wasn't sure if the translation was waiting to be verified.

It does seem like Sergei got really lucky. He might not be able to play tennis again because of the pelvis/hip break and will definitely need a lot of physical therapy to recover but he's alive and all there so that's what's important. I'm sure Vika will be okay for next season once Sergei begins healing; the initial shock is what's so hard to deal with.

On a side note, I can't believe I got roped into arguing with the forum's queen troll in the GM thread. I'm losing my touch.

Yup, I definitely agree. The most important thing is that he survived, and (in the grand scheme of things) his injuries aren't too bad. I mean, not only could he have died, he could've broken his neck, cracked his skull or been paralyzed. For Vika, she probably just panicked when she first found out because they're was so little information.

So happy about how well he's doing, given the circumstances!

Quote:
November 5, 2012. Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian international tennis player Sergei Bubka Jr. suffered fractures to his leg and arm as a result of an accident in Paris on November 1.

Sergei was taken to Georges Pompidou hospital and underwent surgery the same day. The medical team is fully satisfied with the results of the surgery.

Ukrainian Tennis Federation President, Vadim Shulman, visited Sergei in Paris: "It was a shock to hear about Sergei's accident, but I'm glad to see him do well under the circumstances. I have been visiting with my family the past days and it was wonderful to see Sergei smiling around with my kids. Our tennis federation will support him where needed and we are looking forward to seeing Sergei back on the court as soon as possible."

Sergei Bubka Jr. and his family wish to thank everyone for their messages of support. They are also grateful to the Georges Pompidou hospital staff and doctors for their swift professional help and care.

"On the bright side, it is in difficult times that you realize how many friends you have in life. I'm glad and grateful to have my family and close ones here with me in Paris. I am truly blessed by the overwhelming support and good wishes I have been receiving. I sincerely thank the doctors, the tennis family, friends and everyone for their support. I hope to start with rehabilitation as soon as possible.", said Sergei Bubka Jr.

Sergei Bubka Jr., 25, is a professional tennis player, ranked #182 in the ATP World Tour Ranking. He also regularly plays for the Ukrainian National Tennis team in the Davis Cup matches.

Shocking accident. Good to hear he'll probably recover. I don't know the exact place where he broke his hip, i broke mine this summer after falling from a bike and it healed very well. He's young so there's a good chance he can pick up his tennis career again.

The question is how different a broken hip is from wear and tear. Back and hip injuries are probably the worst for tennis players slightly above the hitting shoulder.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

It depends upon the location of the fracture. In my case the fracture was ~2 cm beneath the hip joint (column fracture). If there are no complications this injury can heal completely only the screws they implant to keep things together can sometimes be a bit problematic especially when you want to play top tennis. It's possible to get rid of those screws after a year though.

Since they're talking about pelvis fracture it's likely his fracture is located a bit higher which is probably worse. I'm glad he's doing well right now, even so the recovery process is tedious i know that much.
