Re: Ranks

What about Venus? Is she basically locked ahead of Vika until the YEC points come off?

yup. I'm happy with that. 6 or 7 not much difference. As long as she is top8.

Re: Ranks

If Vika wins the tourney and Wozniacki and Venus lose either in R4 or the QF (not sure which), she will be #2.

It's a good thing to dream.. isn't it?

Re: Ranks

I believe that Venus would have to lose today and that Vika would have to win today... ??? Maybe Christina can shed some light on the issue though. She is the ranking guru.

Re: Ranks

Both Vika and Venus have reached the QF.
If Vika AND Venus both lose in the QF: Venus will be 566 points ahead of Vika.
If Venus loses her QF, but Vika reaches SF, Venus will be 166 points ahead of Vika.
If Venus loses her QF, but Vika reaches the final, Vika will be ahead of Venus
If Venus loses her SF, and Vika reaches the final, Venus will be 66 points ahead of Vika
If Venus loses her SF, and Vika wins Aus Open, Vika will be ahead of Venus
IF Venus finishes RUP, well Vika will exit earlier...

Re: Ranks

Vika is increasing the gap between herself at 6 and Dementieva at 7. Good to see, but Vika has an aweful lot of points to defend in both Indian Wells and Miami, and as far as I remember, Dementieva doesn't. A title today will bring Vika to 5 and also give her some valuable points as buffer for when the defense of IW and Miami comes, a loss today will keep Vika at 6 and Venus will be much safer in top5 than she is right now.
So basically for Vika to enter top5 she has to count on herself, just like she did when entering the top20 for the first time after reaching the SF in Berlin 2008, like she did when entering the top10 with the SF in Indian Wells 2009 and when entering the top8 for the first time by winning Miami 2009.

Re: Ranks

Staying in the top 8 should just be her priority up until RG which I think she should be able to achieve because after IW/Miami she doesn't really have anything much to defend other than her Rome SF and RG/Wimby QF's then she can aim for the top 4.

AZARENKA * JANKOVIC * VESNINA * LISICKI * ROBSON * VAIDISOVA
