I believe this thread need a giant BUMP!

All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wonder are lost. The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring. Renewed shall be blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be king

Re: Ranks

^^ Victoria will be #1 with 8045 points -- I'm not certain where she'll go from that since I don't know her calendar but she could certainly increase the lead with her followers in Doha and/or Dubaï which are not counted in her best of 16.

Génie - Victoria - Kristina.

I'd like to hear the haters complain about her number one finger waving now!

(And it wasn't until someone said it was a number one thing that I ever thought of it that way, I just figured it was part of her celebration. )

I believe that now she will be #1 until at least the end of Miami, so 9 weeks

Anyone have her points breakdown?

Sucks that she has a 0 pointer for Cincinnati though
It looks like for now Kvitova is the only one who can challenge Vika to take the #1 ranking after Miami, since Maria and Caroline have a lot to defend...

Unless Aga or Sam can somehow win Dubai, IW, and Miami or something

Unless Aga or Sam can somehow win Dubai, IW, and Miami or something
with Vika in the SF (and Masha hasn't played her QF), the only player to challenge Vika for the number 1 spot after Miami is Masha. If Vika loses her SF and in the first round of Miami, Masha will need 1405 points to reach Vika, and those 1405 points are not couting the 250 points she already has from her Indian Wells QF. Another, maybe easier way to look at it, is to say Masha needs a total of 1655 points from IW and Miami to reach Vika. As you get 1000 for a title and 700 for a RUP, Masha needs that to overtake Vika, and that is assuming Vika loses her SF in IW and loses her first match in Miami. So it would be good for Vika to have Masha bow out soon, just to be sure. But on the other hand, a Vika vs Masha final is yummy

How many weeks does she currently have at #1 and how many more is she guaranteed?

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.

Re: Ranks

For me, it is right now the easiest to count weeks using the WTA calendar:
http://www.wtatennis.com/SEWTATour-A...urCalendar.pdf

she became number 1 after winning Aus Open, so week 6 was her first week. Miami is in week 13/14, so when Miami is over, she will have been #1 for 9 weeks. However, she can't lose it, even if she loses her first match and Masha wins (Kvitova too far away). Marbella doesn't count towards her ranking, only Madrid and FO do of the clay tournaments, so she won't lose points anytime soon. I've made a very complicated documents about points, I myself can hardly figure it out, so I won't post it, just the conclusion:
IF Vika loses first round in both Miami and Stuttgart AND Masha wins both events, Vika will lose her number 1 ranking to Masha as the points from Madrid drop. As far as I know, Madrid was last year played during week 19, this year in week 20, so they will drop before the players can defend them (please correct me if I am wrong here). So she is guaranteed to be number 1 until week 19 (week 19 being her last week) = 13 weeks guaranteed.

But after Vika drops her Madrid points = 700 (and Petra will drop hers as well = 1000), the following week Masha will drop 900 points from Rome 2011, then comes FO, Masha made the SF = 900 points in 2011 (vs Vika's 500), and then Wimbledon, Masha was RUP = 1400 points (vs Vika's 900). I haven't really looked into the situation yet, to many if's but looking at these numbers, I think even if Vika is to lose her ranking, she is likely to get it back shortly after
