Nika is 16 (born Feb 2, 1999 in Minsk), she was at junior CHR of 203 last week.
Her best junior results so far this year are a final at G4 Yonex ITF Hamburg in January (had to retire at 0-2 down in the final against Leonie Kung ) and 2 QF appearances, at G4 Magnolia Cup and at G2 Panaceo ITF Junior Cup.
Last year she actually didn't play much, but won a title at G4 Latvian Open (beat Valeriya Yuschenko, 5-7 6-2 7-6(3) in the final :yeah, and also made one more final at G5 Dynamit Cup (lost to Diana Krasnova in the final, 6-3 5-7 3-6 ) and a SF at G4 Belkanton Cup (fell to Hanna Kryvatulava, 1 & 2 in SF). :yeah:
Last November, she played her very first pro event at 25K Minsk where she was given a MDWC, and lost badly to (6)Ekaterina Alexandrova in R1, 2 & 0. Alexandrova was #257 at that time and was the runner-up at that tournament in the end.
This week and last week were her 2nd & 3rd tries at a pro tournament, she was given a QWC this time (way more sensible ) at both Minsk 25Ks.
At the first one, she lost in Q1 to Claudia Coppola, 4-6 6-2 0-6.
At the second one this week, she did much better: beat Palina Dubavets, 3-6 7-5 6-1 in Q1, and (14)Liubov Vasilyeva (WTA 619, CHR 578), 7-5 7-6(5) in Q2, and took the first set against top seed Sofia Kvatsabaia (WTA 379), before eventually falling in 3, 6-3 3-6 3-6. Pretty great week for Nika!
Let's hope Nika has a great 2nd part of the year now, and gets as close to the Top 100 as possible by the end of the year!
