13 yo Kristinka (born Sept 25, 2003) from Minsk has been improving very steadily over the last year and has now joigned Nastya Abramovich & Janka Kolodynska as one of the 2003-born Belarusian prospects!
She was the runner-up of the Belarusian Junior Masters organised by Azarenka last winter (she thrashed Polina Khotko 1 & 1 in SF, and then lost a close final to Anastasiya Abramovich, 7-5 1-6 4-6
), and 2 months ago she won Minsk Cat. 2 G14 Smena Cup: she beat 4th seed Anastasiya Soboleva 5-7 6-4 6-3 in R1, qualifier Alisya Gladkova 4-6 6-0 6-3 in R2, Anastasiya Komar 7-5 6-3 in QF, top seed Michelle Tikhonko 7-5 6-2 in SF, and 2nd seed Tatiana Muzykantskaya, 2-6 7-5 6-2 in the final!
Smena Cup was her first tournament of 2017, she's played 3 more of them after this one:
- Cat. 1 G14 TIM Essonne in France: she sadly lost to local qualifier Laia Petretic in R1, 6-4 3-6 0-6; BUT she did win the consolation title, beating fellow Belaruska Aliona Falei (who's about 6 months younger than her) in 3 sets in the final!
- then, last week, Cat. 2 G14 Minsk Star: she was the 7th seed there, beat qualifier Malannia Vashkevich 0 & 4 in R1 and qualifier Sofya Ostrovskaya 0 & 3 in R2, before losing a fight to top seed Lyubov Kostenko (the TIM Essonne runner-up) in QF, 4-6 6-2 1-6.
She also reached the final in doubles pairing with Nastya Abramovich (
), but they sadly got routined by fellow (and older) Belarusian pair Komar/E. Tikhonko in the final, 2 & 4.
- and this week, she's played Belkanton Cup, the 3rd Cat. 2 G14 tournament held in Minsk. She was the 5th seed there, disamntled qualifier Smilte Bakyte 1 & 0 in R1 and she also thrashed Ekaterina Tikhonko 4 & 0 in R2 (taking revenge from that dubs final loss
), but she fell to leftie Russian 4th seed Diana Shnaider (who's a little over 6 months younger than her like Aliona) in QF today, 3-6 7-5 1-6
She's really stepped up in these last few months!
Hopefully she keeps this up, keep improving and going up! GL to her for the rest of the year and the year to come, davayyy!
