Re: FWTT Year End Championships [2013]

Mésane announces new chapter in her career, says goodbye to Sabine Graf
"Harper and I will shake things up"

Elise Mésane has some exciting news

Istanbul, TUR - 67. When the 2013 season will come to a close next week, Elise Mésane will have had a whopping number of 67 doubles partners over the course of her career. Never one to say no, the current number four on the doubles rankings was the poster child of the late noughties when it came to winning five titles with five different partners in one year. As Fleri's appearance changes, so does time. A steady partnership with the now-retired Ella Felivitch and then Sabine Graf, Mésane broke into the top ten and reached five Grand Slam finals, only to lose them all.

As Felivitch said goodbye to Mésane, it's now the latter's turn to bid adieu. Having teamed up with Sabine Graf since as early as May this year, the pair grabbed titles in Rome, Eastbourne, Stanford, Cincinnati and Linz and even reached the final at Roland Garros in only their third tournament together. After such an impressive resume in only six months, it's safe to say Mésane's decision comes as a surprise. "When I started the year, Ella and I immediately won a title at Hobart and lost the final at Melbourne. I had no idea we weren't going to finish the year together, but when Ella decided to leave in March, Sabine offered to take her place. I wasn't sure at first, but it was obvious we immediately clicked. I don't think I've ever been this succesfull with someone in such a short period of time." The hug they shared after losing to Saikikimbondwe and Anastidis yesterday was a hug goodbye. "It's been an amazing time with Sabine and I hope we can perhaps play together again when the opportunity presents itself. I'd like that."

So what's next? After her loss to Taliamanosoko in singles in Istanbul, the French starlet had a surprising announcement to make"I'm exciting to say that, starting in January, I'll be teaming up with Harper. We've had talks throughout the season about a possible partnership and we've finally decided to go for it. It doesn't happen often that two high-caliber players split from their respective partners, but we're hoping to shake things up a little bit. I'm guessing we'll definitely have the advantage in our first few matches just because the other teams will be confused by seeing us together." Both top 10 players, Johnson and Mésane will immediately start the new year as a seeded team and a serious contender for the Grand Slams. "Harper has a couple of Grand Slams under her belt already, while I'm still looking for my first one, so I'm definitely hoping she'll show me some of her magic. I've already been practicising my trophy hoisting."

I know I've been a liar
And I know I've been a fool
I hope we didn't break it
But I'm glad we broke the rules
My cave is deep now
Yet your light is shining through
I cover my eyes
Still all I see is you

Re: FWTT Year End Championships [2013]

Singles Results, Semifinals

[4]Ruflina Taliamanosoko defeated [9]Fleri Hingisafrilia 7/6(2), 6/2
Fleri went in to this match lacking confidence and continued the trend as she fell in two sets to Ruflina, who manages to go to the final not even losing a set.

[3]Alexandra Anastidis def. [11]Xhakalinda Saikikimbondwe 7/6(5), 7/6(6)
Alexa continues her strong second half of the year by knocking off her friend and doubles partner in a pair of tiebreaks. Xhaka, the former junior superstar, should be proud of her first full year on the pro circuit.
