The Taliamanosoko Nyoteupesi Starlight Academy - a story of success

The Taliamanosoko Nyoteupesi Starlight Academy is based in Kasane, in the north of Botswana, right at the border to the Caprivi (Namibia). It has been founded in 2006 by FWTT veteran Ruflina Taliamanosoko in order to give something back to her mother continent, Africa. "Nyoteupesi" is the Tswana translation to starlight. The first major success for the Academy was found when Caroline Mutola, a junior player from Botswana, rose to fame by playing the Olympic tournament. Her early success was soon overshadowed by Luna-Willow Bartoli's surprising debut on FWTT that took her to the top 10 in the world in less than a year. Bartoli even won the 2010 Australian Open doubles title (with Martine Kartincova, CZE). Later on, Namibia's top juniors Nthamangela and Heitraud Mbangu entered the academy. Nthamangela, the older of the sisters was a runner-up at the 2011 Australian Open (lost to world number one Ziyi Zianzhi, CHN). Also Cornelia Du Preez from South Africa started her pro career after four years of training in the Taliamanosoko Nyoteupesi Starlight Academy. She is currently ranked inside the top 30. The success story is to be continued as Xhakalinda Saikikimbondwe from Namibia will have her debut on the re-introduced FWTT junior tour in May 2011. Other players from the Academy are expected to join her.

Newspaper Article from 6th May 2011:

Quote:
The new junior tour will also include one of the biggest hopefuls of the Taliamanosoko Nyoteupesi Starlight Academy, which helps young promising players from Southern Africa to advance. Xhakalinda Saikikimbondwe is the name of the fifteen year-old Namibian who will make her debut in Milan, Italy. Latest junior stars who rose up from this academy that is lead by world number two Ruflina Taliamanosoko include top ten players Nthamangela Mbangu, Luna Bartoli, as well as South African Cornelia DuPreez and Nthama Mbangu's little sister Heitraud Matikulela who was shot during Eastbourne 2009.

Rumours are South Africa's #3 will also join the junior tour. The SA tennis federation has four players currently attending the Nyoteupesi Academy, and is expected to announce the lucky player soon.

but somehow I can't help from hoping
to find someone to talk to
who likes the way I am
who when he sees me wants to again

Nyoteupesi stars shine in first junior week
Xhakalinda Saikikimbondwe took the title at GA Milan and also reached the doubles final with Frenchie Manon Arcangioli. This makes the junior hope from Taliamanosoko's academy the FWTT junior world number one. At the other tournament (Amstetten in Austria), Mpule Kwaleglobe from Botswana defeated Julie Saville from Australia in a packing three-setter. Perfect week for Nyoteupesi.

Re: The Taliamanosoko Nyoteupesi Starlight Academy - a story of success

Another article about the junior stars from Kasane:

Quote:
Nyoteupesi Starlight still shining
Impressive first grand slam from the junior players from Nyoteupesi. Despite an early loss from Mpule Kwaleglobe, two junior players who practise in Kasane during winter face up in the singles final of junior Roland Garros. Top seed and number one player Xhakalinda Saikikimbondwe saved match points in the second round against Greek Alexandra Anastidis and defeated Australian Zaelly Ircha to win her 8th match out of 8. In the final, Saikikimbondwe will face good friend and practise partner Klentjie Jantjes from South Africa who took out doubles specialist Maria Broseghini, number two seed Veronica Olivier, senior player Berenika Wojnarowska and Swede Kandy Marshmellow en route to her first ever singles final.
On a side note, Kerstin Van Evangelizaan from Zimbabwe also reached the second round of the singles tournament. In doubles, Mpule Kwaleglobe decided to enter a last-minute partnership with Malaysian Jawaskraya Loordinia and hopped in as an alternate into the main draw. They defeated the Thais Lertroo-Alungkarn/Nomyan and the third-seeds Baldini and Olivier before saving four match points against the second seeds Maria Broseghini and Ndjamena Zinaida Naaumy. In the final, Kwaleglobe and Loordinia will face Carol and Chantal Chan from Hong Kong.
