Taliamanosoko comes home to defend Title
It was a hot day in the Kenyan desert. Ruflina Taliamanosoko had just clinched a 3-2 victory over Great Britain to push Africa into the Fed Cup Finals. After the tie, Ruflina took the first direct flight to San Diego International Airport as she lives there with her husband and two children in the resort area of La Costa.
After Fed Cup, I flew straight home so we could be a family. It was only our 2nd time home all year. Now, it is nice because I can live at home the next 2 weeks and play tennis. La Costa is my favorite tournament, because I live and train here during the offseason, and all the club pros know me personally and I know them. So this is a real "backyard" tournament for me.
The husband and coach of Ruflina, Ikumbo Kimjumba is happy as well.
I get tired, as well as our 2 girls, so it's nice to sleep in our own beds. I'm excited about La Costa because Ruflina is the defending champion, and it is the best tennis area in the world with the best people and the best courts, so aside from the Grand Slams, this is the best tournament.
During the next 2 weeks, Ruflina will have some company in her 7500 square foot "palace." Jane Wong, best friend and doubles partner, will be there with her as well as her new coach, Jana Novotna. Ruflina said, "Jana is very sweet....I love talking with her about serve and volley, because I am one of the few players who continue to do that most of the time."
Former tour pro, Martina Lian, is also with the family, as she is the constant travel companion/baby sitter of Ruflina's 2 children and Lian's own child, which made her decide to retire from the tour. Lian said, "I have the best of both worlds. I get to be on the tour, just not play. Plus I get to take care of the 3 best children in the world, my daughter Teresa, and Ruflina's 2 children Anna and Lexi."
Loves of my life....
