Debuting African wins first match in Palermo
Talisa TULULPE-RAJE/Daniela TURUNDZHOV 1-6 6-2 6-3
Q: Talisa, congratulations. Seems you enjoyed well your late entry.
A: I'm very happy. It's my first match on FWTT, and I could keep my focus and win. I'm very happy.
Q: How did you entered Palermo on Miele's place?
A: Barbara announced her retirement, and the tournament director accepted, when I asked to enter her place. After a lot of things, I finally could play here. I also had to ask permission for the Juniors tour director for my entrance on tour. Everything's fine now.
Q: So you will have to play Juniors?
A: Yeah, I just enjoyed my opportunity here. I could show everyone what I'm able to. (smiles). Yeah, I'll have to start my career on Juniors.
Q: So this is your debut, tell me things about you Talisa.
A: I'm 16 years old, I'm from Meru, Kenya. And I have been playing tennis since I'm 5 years old. As in Kenya, tennis courts are really rare, I had to go to Zimbabwe to improve my game. My dad and my mom came with me.
Q: So seems tennis in Africa is growing.
A: Yes, I guess so.
Q: It was your choice to play tennis?
A: My dad wanted me to make track and field. I didn't wanted cause I think is not my type, so I started to read some magazine on my city about tennis. I loved and I told my mom, and she said that was pratically impossible to play on Kenya. That's why we traveled to Zimbabwe, cause it's a more developed country.
Q: Talisa, you're playing with Natalya Dhopolcova. Have you met some girls on tour?
A: I didn't had a chance yet. I only met Natalya incidentially before tournament starts, and Daniela, cause I just played her.
They are being really nice with me. I hope we can be good friends.
Q: Ok Talisa, so good luck in Palermo, and we wish to see you more on tour.
A: Thanks guys! I hope too
