Hobart 2007

Starting in 2007, Hobart is a 48 draw, not 32.

Re: Hobart 2007

I've read there will 16 byes and Serena will be in the draw.
This is instead of playing Sydney. I think a good decision, as long as Anna does well in Tazmania.

Re: Hobart 2007

Anya has a chance to kick ass here. Hopefully she won't draw Serena in her first match.

It's the week before the Aussie Open so she needs to play herself into form in Hobart and get several matches under her belt (straight sets wins is best so she doesn't get tired). Anya needs to make some waves at the Open and get beyond the second round; it's the only Slam where she's never managed that.

Problem with the Aussie tournies like Hobart is that they're low Tier, almost no prize money or ranking points but you've got to play them to get any sort of form.

Re: Hobart 2007

9 of the top 10 are in Sydney that week. So Hobart seems like a better choice.

Re: Hobart 2007

The highest-ranked player to have competed at the Hobart International will be Anna Chakvetadze. The 19-year-old Russian has quickly risen up the world rankings during the last couple of years, culminating in her victory at the prestigious Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Tier I Kremlin Cup in Moscow in October. On her way to the title, the Russian achieved impressive victories against three top 10 players: Dinara Safina, Elena Dementieva and Nadia Petrova in the final.

Moorilla Hobart International further strengthened
December 12, 2006

In another major boost for the Moorilla Hobart International, a further seven of the world’s top 50 players have confirmed their attendance, tournament organisers announced today.

After the final entry deadline, the updated player list now includes world No.28 Flavia Pennetta, Russian glamour girl and world No.30 Maria Kirilenko, world No.32 Alona Bondarenko, past champion Jie Zheng, rising Russian star Olga Poutchkova, world No.39 Severine Bremond and Russian former top 15 player Elena Likhovtseva.

The strongest player field in the tournament’s history now boasts a staggering 17 of the world’s 50 players, headlined by seven-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and world No.13 Anna Chakvetadze.

I think that would be a good final. But this could be a first round match. Still a couple of weeks to wait though.

Re: Hobart 2007

Anna should do well here. I think it is better to catch Serena early in a tournament if you have to play her at all.

Re: Hobart 2007

Anna belongs in Sydney, but this is a better chance to get matches before the AO.
