This 13 yo (born June 7, 2002) from Riga seems to be one of the most promising Latvian girls atm!
She's won 4 tournaments so far this year: G14 Opalenica Cup in Poland in May (she was the top seed there, beat 2nd seed Aleksandra Wierzbowska 3 & 1 in the final), G16 Toyota Cup in Lithuania in June (she was the 3rd seed there, beat top seed Iveta Daujotaite 3 & 4 in SF, and 5th seed Aleksandra Efremova 2 & 0 in the final), and G14 Riga Open at home just the week after (she was the 4th seed there, beat 3rd seed Kseniya Yersh 2-6 6-3 6-3 in the final), and finally G16 Jelgava Open in Latvia 3 weeks ago (she was the top seed there, beat 4th seed Maria Krupenina 7-5 6-3 in the final).
She kinda underperformed at the biggest U14 tournaments this year though: lost in R1 of Les Petits As (1 & 1 to Helene Pellicano), lost in R1 of Open Des Jeunes Stade Français - BNP Paribas Cup (she was the 12th seed, fell 6-7(5) 6-3 6-7(5) to qualifier Jennifer Anger) and made only the 4th round at the European Junior Championships (she was the 15th seed there, had a bye in R1, beat Bojana Klincov 7-5 6-3 in R2 and Andjela Skrobonja 1-6 7-5 6-4 in R3 but lost 5-7 6-0 0-6 to Romana Cisovska in R4
But she's a year younger than the vast majority of the girls competing in this high-profile tournaments and will probably have better luck next year!
But this week she's through her first G18 QFs at G4 Jurmala Open (only her 3rd G18 ever!), with convincing wins over Palina Padabed in Q1, 1 & 2, (1)Iveta Daujotaite (#856), 1 & 1 in Q2
, (7)Veronika Falkowska, 4 & 1 in Q3, (Q)Melis Yasar, 4 & 2 in R1, and (Q)Stefania Rogozinska Dzik, 7-5 6-3 in R2!
QF match will be interesting, she will face fellow Latvian, (1)Daniela Vismane (who is 2 years older, #297).
