2-6 4-2 to Jelena. Has started to pick up her game. I arrived just after the second set began. Her serve isnt good enough. Jang is killing the 2nd and sometimes even the first. Because she is smaller, she has to go for winners to keep up. I hope Jang falls away a bit. I will give you more updates.
Jelena won 2-6 7-6(4) 6-3 against Jang! Great comeback.
She plays (16)Kyle McPhillips next.
A miny choke at the end. Had tonnes of opportunities and ended up pushing. Jang got some momentum before jelen got lucky (2 netcords, a jang double fault and a reallllllllly long rally where jang netted a short backhand). I hope she has a good attitude in the second round and can do some damage
Jelena will make her professional debut at Tallinn 10k from 13-19 of February. A nice place to start but Tallinn always draws a very strong field. Also, she will probably play the second Tallinn tournament as well.
Shes up at no. 4 alt so she should get in now. I think that instead of using national ranking, they should also use junior rankin to determine who is higher as Indy de Vroome would beat Kadi Ilves 60 60
Q1: Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) d. Maria Jespersen (DEN) 63 61
Q2: Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) d. (4)Chantal Skamlova (SVK) 64 64
R1: (Q)Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) d. Maya Gaverova (RUS) 62 64
R2: (Q)Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) vs. (wc)Indy de Vroome (NED)
Great senior debut for Jelena so far with a couple good wins. Don't think she has what it takes to beat a top ten junior yet but best of luck.
