Re: Anett Kontaveit

Won 63 63 in doubles

And she is out from Johannesburg. Wise decision considering her current poor form, she probably could have lost in R1 anyway. No need to waste money. Better stay in GB and hang out with besties

I am sad and disappointed but I guess a good decision
She still could have won a round though
Wouldn't she have already booked the flights
I hope her and Jess win

Re: Anett Kontaveit

Some positives for Anett this week
I mean, Smith will probably win the tournament now and she is in the Final (although looks like a big ask) and she has a shot at winning another title
Doubles spesh

Re: Anett Kontaveit

Why is she doing much better in doubles than singles lately?
When she was in really good form in junior slams in singles then she never got far in doubles there - how can this be explained?

Anyway, congrats for yet another title of course

Re: Anett Kontaveit

Doubles are actually important in juniors, as it gives ranking points. In these small ITF's doubles are (for the most players) much, much less important than singles. Most tournaments in Europe even do not manage to fill up the doubles draw.

And if you lose early in singles, then it's easy to concentrate on doubles and make best effort there When Anett and Tanja won European Championships, then she also lost early in singles.

It makes sense to me. Smith was a very hard 1st Round it seems. She would have had to run a lot which not only is not Anett's strength but if he toe is still annoying her it would be impossible. She got an easy draw in Doubles here. She can focus more on it when she has lost early in Singles which she did. There is less pressure in Doubles so she doesn't choke. She is playing with friends which is just fun. Finally, her game is actually pretty well suited for Doubles. Decent serve, excellent return, great backhand, good forehand and decent volleying.

Re: Anett Kontaveit

Anett is 7th on the entry list for junior RG. The likes of Kiick, Duval, Vickery, Sorribes, Danilina, Kulichkova will all be unseeded and may cause some fuss in the earlier rounds. Of the higher seeds Siniakova has been scoring top 150 wins left and right recently so she must surely be one of the main contenders. Konjuh probably as well, although she has been on a longer injury break.

Anett is also listed for Moscow as expected. Not sure if she'll make it to MD, but might be better to play qualies anyway to get more practice.

Sorribes, Siniakova, Kan and Konjuh will be only main problems IMO if she is semi decent
The surface is a big advantage for her
