Hingis begins her 'title defense' in style - A Lawntennisnews on hands report

(Zurich, Switzerland) Swiss comeback kid Martina Hingis (WTA, 9) played herfirst official match in 6 years on home soil and dispatched German Anna-Lena Grönefeld (WTA, 19) in straight sets. Hingis who won 6-0 7-5 in little over an hour started the match playing errorfree tennis and patiently forcing Grönfeld into unforced errors. The German conceded the first break of the match in the second game on her third double fault (there will be 9 in total). Hingis mixing constancy with some delicious shots broke again in the 4th and 6th games to clinch the first set in 22 minutes.

Wow. That seems so long

I am a fan of Jamea Jackson and Vera Zvonareva ever since the Birmingham final.

Great tennis

U can consider her a veteran on the tour despite her 26 years old.

There seemed to be no real signs of nerves playing on home soil for the first time in ages.

That and the fact that she missed three years makes it quiet remarkable that she is considered a tour veteran but the title is quite deserved.

Best of Luck to her for the rest of the tourney.
