It had been drizzling ever since I got up yesterday morning and I didn't expect to see much action. Well turns out that I wouldn't
I sat in on the Dushevina/Bartoli match at 3-0 (Bartoli). And it looked like Marion was cruisin'
I can't say if Marion was spot on or if Vera was not playing so hot because play was halted at 4-0 (Bartoli). Marion walked up to the ump and complained about the slippery state of the court. I don't blame her, it was drizzling all morning and it even picked up a little when I arrived. Luckily I was able to take a few pics before play stopped and I get a really cool picture of Vera right before she nails a backhand
I really like it!!!!
Suarez and some other lady were playing on the adjacent court and they were halted as well. I am really
that the weather has been so uncooperative
I was really looking forward to making my way over to the Suarez match and taking some pics of that loopy Paola forehand
So the officials stopped all ther outside court matches (including the Osterloh match) and kept the players oncourt for about 15 minutes and then sent them back to the lockerroom. I took a couple of pics of the players sitting at their chairs when play was stopped. They're kinda cute because Marion in sitting there looking up at the sky and Vera is sitting down looking in a daze. I was playing with my camera functions and think I took the Vera pic in Sepia
So off to the Coliseum I went. They closed the roof on it so play could continue
When I got there Morigami was toughing it out with Fedossova. Nothing to spectacular with the exception that Fedossova aced Aiko on match point and Aiko stood there for about 20 second in dissagreement with the line call. She finally through her arms up and shook hands and walked back to her chair. Morigami then through her racquet and sat in her chair for like a minute without even moving
I took a pic
Then came the Ai/King match. I was soooo sleepy during that match that I dozed off a couple times
When the weather gets really rainy, I get sleepy
All in all, this was a damned-near 2 hour epic of a match
Vania was hitting her shots and really testing the veteran, but Ai's quickness and scrambling really paid off. I think Ai's serve could use a good 10 or 20 more mph and when they did go over, they were so low over the net
What I really like about Ai's game was her backhand; especially the many backhand DTL winners she hit!! They had me
ing in my seat
I did look like King was a bit tight towards the end, and that probably kept her from closing out the match. On matchpoint Sugiyama, King made her way to net and nailed an overhead that was obviously out from where I was sitting. However she thought it was in and even walked back to the baseline to serve
You can imagine her reaction when the ump said, "Game, set, match Sugiyama"
Poor King. She's got some great talent though, and I expect her to go far.
Next up was the Federer/Moodie match, and I must say after seeing this match I was a bit moody
This match was over so fast!!! I think it was over before it even began
I got up right before it started to use the bathroom and when I came back Federer was up *4-0
I do not know what happened
I don't think I fell asleep or anything
Once I sat down and saw the rest of the match, I understood what happened. It was another case study of Federer playing cat and mouse with his opponents. Poor Moodie
He didn't know whether he was coming or going
The match was over in 50 minutes.
I forgot my camera at my place so I'll have to upload the pics and vids later
Also, I woke up this morning and the weather is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!
It's really really windy and the rain is coming down in sheets. I'm contemplating whether I should even make the trip
