003--Predict the Score--Berlin 2006---Predict your quarterfinal matches now!
PTS # 003---Berlin 2006
Hello all, and welcome to PTS: Predict the Score. Many of you probably remember this game from before, well, IT'S BACK! This time it will be run by I♥Lindsay and NyCPsu. We decided to put this thread up early just to get the word out and have extra time for people to decide whether or not they would like to play. Normally, there will be no commitments needed to play in a tournament but if you would like to play just let us know beforehand for this one so we can see just how many people are interested. For those of you that don't remember the rules or are brand new to the game here's a little run-down for you!
Each tournament you must predict the score of WTA matches for that tournament. Based on the size of the WTA Draw, you will have to pick so many from each round. Now, the only predictions that you ABSOLUTELY MUST MAKE are from the first round. After the first round, you may make as few, or the maximum number in each round. So, if you forget to do round 2, you're not out, just make some for the QF's or SF's or etc. Here is a basic outline of the MAX number of picks you can make:
64 Player Draw:
1st Round: YOU MUST MAKE 9 PREDICTIONS
2nd Round: You CANNOT make more than 7 predictions
3rd Round: you CANNOT make more than 5 predictions
Quarterfinal: you CANNOT make more that 3 predictions
Semifinal: you CANNOT make more that 2 predictions
Final: 1 Prediction
Now, for the points. For each match you predict, you will get points based on how accurately you predict the match. Here is a list of all the points you can get:
Correct winner, set #, and all scores: 35 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, set scores, but the sets were in the wrong order: 25 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, and one set score: 20 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, set #, and two set scores: 23 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner and correct set #, but no scores correct: 15 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, incorrect set #, and 1 set score correct: 12 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 7-5, 6-0. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)
Correct winner, incorrect set #, and 2 set scores correct: also 12 points
(ex: your prediction: davenport d. sharapova 7-5, 6-2. actual score: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2)(this is also 12 points because the set # are incorrect..so basically correct winner but incorrect set # gets you 12 points)
Incorrect winner (scores and set # do not matter): 0 points
(ex: your prediction: sharapova d. davenport 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. actual score: davenport d. sharapova 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. even though you got 2 set scores right and the # of sets, it doesn't matter cause your winner is wrong.)
Now, for the rankings. After each round i (or NyCPsU) will update the standings with the points you receive for your picks. At the end of the tournament, you will receive ranking points based on where you are in the rankings. The ranking points you get will be based on the Ranking Points the WTA Players receive for the round they make. A list of the points will be posted in each tournament thread, so you don't have to figure it out for yourself. Here's an example though, for Amelia Island:
Winner: 195 ranking points
2nd Place: 137 points
3rd and 4th Place: 88 points
5th-8th places: 49 points
9th-16th places: 25 points
17th-32nd places: 14 points
33rd+: 1 point
The actual rankings will be calculated after each tournament, and will be done like the WTA Rankings. The will run on a 12 month system, and you will lose points exactly 12 months after you gain them if you do not defend them. This will help keep the game close and more realistic.
There will also be Race Rankings, which will be accumulated from the first tournament up until the last tournament before the YEC. The top 8 will make the YEC. After the Year-End Championships, the points will reset and everyone will start the next year from 0.
I think that's about all there is to know about the game. Yes, it may be confusing, but if you have any questions just ask and one of us will help you. It is not necessary to sign-up, you will be entered into the tournament when you make your Round 1 picks.
Hope you like this game ! Have fun, and enjoy!
Sincerely, your PTS runners:
I♥Lindsay and NyCPsU
