At least we can be sure that Sam held serve at least once in the match

But they're under pressure again on Fran's serve.

No offense to Fran, but I hope this is right. Sam just broken for 3-5. Hopefully all errors from Fran at the net

Surely it's over now.

Probably. Some players didn't play today, and some are still in both singles and doubles, so they're the most logical choices for early matches. Everything else will probably get pushed back, including Sam and Petra

Re: Clay Court 2013: Sam on the Road to Roland Garros

Team FrankenSam stumbling out of the tournament like a collection of dead body parts (this is just the team that keeps on giving in terms of nicknames ). I really like this team though. In some ways, it's better because I don't think either Sam or Fran are too committed to doubles at this point; they do it mostly for some extra court time. So there wouldn't be any concern about disappointing each other like there was (or I imagined that there was) when Raysur were together.

Scheduling is annoying now. Probably will start at ~1amish Australian time. And from memory, that court is the one that is completely out in the open and really vulnerable to wind

Andy Murray|Stanislas Wawrinka|Ryan Harrison|Juan Martin Del Potro|Jack Sock

I think Petra hates wind more than Sam (not for nothing does she have such a great indoors record). In fact I'd say pretty much everything about the conditions favours Sam. Doesn't mean she'll win for sure - even out of form Petra is not to be taken lightly - but it's her best chance ever to get past her I think.

In my opinion when a singles (&doubles) player teams up with a doubles specialist, it is not a good mix.

Problem with doubles specialists is that they make easy return errors a lot of the time, and ground stroke errors in some difficult and important points.

But at the same time, the non-doubles specialist doesn't move around the court as per the plan set out and confusion is common.

So playing with your own type is a good idea in doubles imo.

Yeah I think this is right. I just don't like watching them get sand in their eyes, makes me cringe

I also wonder how Petra's athsma will hold up if the conditions turn rough.

Yeah, it's probably true that having two players "in alignment" helps both on court tactics and just generally makes the situation easier socially if they're approaching their matches from the same starting point in terms of how important they are.

Re: Clay Court 2013: Sam on the Road to Roland Garros

Watching Na vs JJ atm. Extremely heavy conditions, which I don't think either Sam nor Petra will like much. Not really sure who will hate the conditions more. In any case it poses a bit of a dilemma for Sam: heavy conditions demand patience, but at the same time it's asking for trouble to get too passive against Petra. It'll be interesting to see how Sam approached the match.

Btw, a secondary effect of the heaviy conditions is that it can mean that the matches can get dragged out over a longer time. They're already behind schedule, and more rain is expected I think, so it could be doubtful whether they'll even get on tonight. Why oh why does crappy weather follow Sam around wherever she goes these days?

Re: Clay Court 2013: Sam on the Road to Roland Garros

JJ/NaNa is taking forever.

I guess they might consider putting Sam/Petra on an outside court if it doesn't look like four matches will get done on Pietrangeli. I don't want to stay up until 3am only to find out Sam doesn't get to play ...
