Yeah its a little boring without Sam playing, less stressful but boring. Maria is playing but I actually find myself watching more mens matches when Sam isnt playing.. have alot more reliable faves

sam stosur. maria sharapova. jarmila gajdosova
dellacqua.kvitova.tomljanovic.safarova.

Re: ...HardCourt II

I miss Sam from Miami.

I think she goes back up to #9 in the rankings because Wozniacki loses her SF points from last year.

Re: ...HardCourt II

Yes, I have to admit it gave me some satisfaction seeing Caro lose yesterday. Maybe not very nice of me, but I thought there was some justice in it, seeing as though Caro needed withdrawals by both Sam and Vika last week to overtake Sam in the rankings. Kerber also failed to take advantage of her second straight free pass to the SF, which I also thought was kind of fitting.

Maybe the tennis gods are finally smiling on Sam. She could have lost quite a bit of her current buffer against players ranked below her and lost ground against those ranked above her, but as it turned out all her main rivals (all players ranked 8-13) lost early, so she's still in good shape.

Hopefully she will fit again to do some damage in Charleston next week

I'm hoping she has a good tourny in Charleston....it would be amazing if she won it.

Me too

I'm thinking that if Serena wins Miami, which seems quite likely, she'll probably pull out of Charleston. She almost never plays a full tournament the week after winning a title. I checked as far back as 2007 and couldn't find a single time she had done so. Usually she either withdraws or gives a walkover in the early rounds. That would still leave some pretty good players, but none Sam couldn't beat I don't think.

Sam's facebook update:

Quote:
Thought it was time for an update. Rehab is going well and its feeling better each day. Still hopeful to be playing in Charleston
I guess it's good that the rehab is going well, but it still doesn't sound like she's completely confident about competing in Charleston. And even if she does get to play the tournament, she'll be a bit behind in her training and court-time

Edit: It's also interesting to note that Lisa Raymond and Laura Robson are in the semis of Miami for doubles, which makes we wonder a bit about the future of Raysur ...

Samantha Stosur

Svetlana Kuznetsova|Duan Ying-Ying|Francesca Schiavone|Zhang Shuai|Sloane Stephens|Ashleigh Barty
Andy Murray|Stanislas Wawrinka|Dominic Thiem|Juan Martin Del Potro|Thanasi Kokkinakis

Oh, I love those stats: look at that Charleston picture — Yes, I’m right in the place now. More later. B.

Re: ...HardCourt II

^^I've also been looking out for signs from Sam, hoping for something a little more certain than this, like a report that she is already training. Keep your eyes peeled for us there Bertrand!

I think Lisa is too nice to just dump Sam, but I could imagine Sam maybe not wanting to play doubles too much for a while anyway if she's worried about her calf, so she might step aside and let Lisa carry on with Laura. Then again, Robray, Rayson, etc. don't have the same ring to them as Raysur and Storay, so ....

Re: ...HardCourt II

Looking on the bright side, Sam will have a R1 bye, so still has a full week left to recover. And with the projected seedings going down to around #45, she'd be unlucky to meet anybody too troublesome before the QF. So if she can get herself fit to play, she should have a couple of rounds to play herself into form even if she doesn't get much practice in before the event.

Yes Bertrand, we're relying on you to stalk Sam at every opportunity

I think you're right that Lisa wouldn't dump Sam after an agreement had been made to play long term, but if they both decided the partnership wasn't going too well, or Sam wanted to cut back her courttime at least while coming back from injury, then I could imagine them both sitting down and coming to a mutual agreement to split.

Also, re: the Charleston draw, both Serena and Venus have injury clouds hanging over them at the moment, so that could clear out the draw a bit for Sam as well.

Re: ...HardCourt II

Having met Bertrand in person, I know that he's far too respectful a guy to ever be a stalker in the J. Capriati mould, but in Sam's case he's the perfect man for the job

Almost everybody now expects Serena to skip Charleston, and as you said Venus is highly doubtful too, so Sam just HAS to play now. Once again some nervous days waiting for confirmation one way or another

I am so hoping that Sam will be in good form for charleston. I've been looking forward to this trip for months, and I don't think I could stand it if I didn't see her play.

Driving up to charleston on Saturday and have booked tickets and hotel for the entire week. Sure, the tennis will be great, the city is nice, and it will be a much needed vacation, but dammit......I want to see Sam!!!

On a brighter note, I am hoping to meet Bert in person. And if anyone else is heading to Charleston, shoot me a PM. I originally purchased 2 sets of tix for the entire week, but life and love have a way of kicking my ass so I will be going alone and will therefore have some extra. Bert has first pick, but the rest are fair game.

Hope to be joining in the stalkery soon!

So… fresh stalking, just this morning:

Sinclair, so great to see you back on the forum!

Boy do I wish I could join you, but there's this unfortunate thing called the Atlantic Ocean in the way. As it turns out I'll be heading to the states for work in a few weeks time, just when the tour heads to Europe

In any case your presence there gives me an additional reason for hoping Sam plays. Hope she kicks some extra ass for your special pleasure.
