Happy New Year everyone. I am so excited about 2016. I have a feeling it is going to be a good year for our Sammy.
I have been in Canada for the past month and have missed posting here. I arrive back home on Thursday so will miss part of the first week. I am hoping Sam surprises me and has won a few matches.
^Maybe, she said she wanted to be a little more selective in the tournaments she plays, so maybe she has decided to skip the ones in the Gulf States this year. But maybe she just hasn't committed yet. These are the tournaments that are listed on her website, but she still has time to enter other tournies if she wants to
I hope so too Ado Happy New Year to you as well
Btw: What brings you to Canada at this chilly time of year?
Nicely done Stro! I like the piccies and the list of tournaments for the year at the start of the thread! Great idea! :yeah:
Ado, I was wondering why you were so quiet! Now I know you were frozen up in Canada! Brrrrr.. my cousins there are always asking me to imigrate there.. but too cooooold! Anyway, welcome back, and I hope there is a great surprise of victorious matches waiting for you too!

My sister in law lives in Montreal and we finally decided to have a white Christmas and NY. Spent some time in Vancouver and Lake Louise prior to "acclimatize". For an Aussie, it has been a complete shock to my body. It has been a great experience but damn I couldn't live here. Way too cold! I don't know how you do it Shifty.
I know expecting a good result might be just too much to ask of her, but at least some good form would be a comfort for the year ahead. Aussies never get to see her play in peak form and I would love to see her show the crowd what she can really do.

Ironically, it was the crowd with the line judge that had Sam missing out on her first victory of 2015 over Lepchenko. I think Sam needs to be in a zone to get on a roll with that fantastic controlled aggression of hers, and I often feel like the Australian crowd pluck her out of that zone. Let's hope they are more melo lol! But, yes, it would be absolutely fantastic if she can do well here! Especially considering being a veteran!
My bad.. have deleted that part of the post. The Live score website is obviously still in progress - it shows 4 January, and still has an old schedule - I was reading Samantha Crawford under tomorrow! I need glasses..
It must be after 5pm in Brisbane.. I wonder why they are taking so long with tomorrow's OOP - probably waiting for the men's results. I don't like the way the new live score site keeps defaulting to the ATP by the way.
I have a really packed work schedule all week, so I will probably see very little live Sammy action this week regardless of how the draw/schedule pans out
There is a small window of opportunity for me, between roughly 6am and 8am (which would be between 3pm and 5pm in Brisbane of my calculations are right. Earlier than that and I'll be too wrecked for work, and after that I have to go to work.
I just saw that the schedule is out and Sam is 3rd match on PR Arena, which could actually coincide with that window tomorrow, weather permitting. But they are expecting more showers, so it could easily be delayed.
Not sure how the damp conditions will affect Sam's chances. It will probably slow the ball down, but that is not necessarily a good thing for her unless there is some zip off the court for her kicker and topspin FH. I think she might actually prefer hot quick conditions against a player like Cepelova
^ Glad you got the window, depending on the weather as you said. Yeah, I think Sam would have preferred it to be hot. 7am is absolutely perfect for me.. Will have to postpone my morning hit with one of my tennis partners though. And I see it is confirmed as Cepelova as Sam's opponent.. looks like the qualifiers are pitted against the Main Draw players according to their ranking.

Top-ranked Australian Sam Stosur hopes a far more low-profile preparation for this year’s Brisbane International will defy a trend of early exits in her home tournament.
The 2011 US Open champion fell in her opening match against American Varvara Lepchenko last year and is desperate to do better from the get-go in 2016 to improve on her current world ranking of No.27.
A former top five-ranked player, Stosur said her main aim was to break back into the top 20.
“It (No.27) is still nothing to sneeze at I guess but given where I have been in my career it’s certainly a fair bit lower than where I necessarily expect myself,” she said.
“This year I’d definitely like to improve on that and try and get myself back into the top 20 as soon as possible.
“The only way to do that is by winning matches and doing that consistently. I still feel like I’ve got that well within me, it’s just a matter of doing it.”
The 31-year-old said her inconsistent displays were really not much different to many of her rivals’ at this stage of the season as players returned from a break.
“It’s one of those things,” Stosur said. “Sometimes it’s hard without match play … without those kind of things under your belt the Australian summer can be very difficult.
“I’m not the only player to have lost early rounds and not have a good start to the season but because I’m Australian it gets highlighted.”
Just looked at the radar and there seems to be some pretty nasty weather closing in on Brisbane atm. They'll be lucky to get through this match in one go I'm afraid
