Re: 2011 Schedule

I will be very curious to see how her schedule shapes up. Unless some kind of a miracle occurs, she's definitely going to need a lot of wild cards this spring. Or a lot of qualifying rounds. Or a lot of much smaller tournaments.

Re: 2011 Schedule

problem she only can get 3 WC to MD this year.
needs to win 2-3 round here and there to get back top40... thats a safe place.

I think her ranking's going to crash after AO-- even if she does reasonably well in Hobart, unless she makes semis or finals, she's not going to defend her Sydney QF points. And who actually thinks she's going to defend AO 4th round? After that, she's going to need a lot more than "2-3 rounds" at any tournament before she's back in the top 40. Granted, she won't be defending anything, but if she can't get WCs, it's a long way back from the 80s. Or the 100s.

(See, this is why staying out longer last spring and coming back with a protected ranking would have been way smarter. God forbid health and practicality come into the decision making at any time. )

Re: 2011 Schedule

i didn't wanted her to play last season at all. I was mad at her all time coz played with injury and fucked up the protected rankings...

australia is 40% of her total points (400 of 1000).
if she could defend like 300pts (SF Hobart, 3rd round AO), that would be very good and with big luck is not impossible. (i would take even 200pts). drops couple spot, but stays in top100-120. and then she has nothing to defend till Stuttgart, and not many after that.
So if she can get into Paris and Dubai MD and win 1-2 match, that would be literally free points. Doha is only for 32 player (if i correct), impossible to get in by her ranking, she should use her first WC there. (or not)
Indian Wells MD is sure (i think). Miami isn't, but the cut-off uesd to be like 80-something.

If she keeps the hopeless pushing and can't win a match in this period there is nothing to talk, she needs to find a new job (chef/quantumphysicist/sportsweardesigner). but till that, i'm hoping.

Re: 2011 Schedule

next list is out.
Doha: "20 of top 27 here plus alot of alts from top 50" by TBE

So either she plays qualy or gets WC (she can get it easily).
Don't know if this was the best decision... bogota(clay)-acapulco(clay)-monterrey(hard) kinda sound ridiculous, but much easier to get in and win play more matches...

(ps: Doha doesn't even have website. This is one of your premier torunament in 2011, Stacey????)

Re: 2011 Schedule

Well, personally, I'm perfectly happy to see her not playing Monterrey. It's really unsafe there now, sometimes I wonder the WTA lets these tournaments go ahead.

That said... if she's got a limited number of wild cards, she'll have to drop down or play qualies at some point. I don't see any way around that.

(She should play Memphis.)

Re: 2011 Schedule

i guess you are right. I do not have many info about whats going on there.
But in past years i heard so many times how horrible is colombia, and still i do not remember anything went wrong about their tournament.

Memphis alone isn't that bad (although its a REALLY fast indoor), problem there is nothing similar before and after in there, even Paris kinda far. Perhaps WTA should consider Paris-Quebec-Memphis swing...

Re: 2011 Schedule

Colombia's been okay for years, as long as you don't wander into FARC territory. Okay, I'm gonna stop now because I'm starting to sound like I'm at work.

Anyhoo, yeah, I was just trying to think of smaller tournaments she could play through the spring swing. If she manages to keep her ranking in the double digits-- which I am not at all convinced will happen-- she might even be able to swing MD in Memphis. If she uses two of her three WCs in Doha and Paris and only manages 1-2 rounds at each, that's not leaving her much margin.

Re: 2011 Schedule

there is still Baku to get into a weak field.
obviously her calendar looking a bit too optimistic right now.

986pts -120(Sydney) -280(AO) = 580pts
thats enough for the 120th place right now. sometimes 120 even too low for Premier qualies, i think.
if she can win 1 match at AO (100pts, overall 680pts) she can remain in top100, untill Stuttgart (-120pts).
then has nothing to defend till sandiego.

986, my God, a year and a half ago she had literally 10000+ points.

Re: 2011 Schedule

That's really worrying ranking wise. I'm curious what she'll do after AO. Playing some smaller tournaments instead of trying to get into Doha/ Dubai would probably the smarter decision
Even if it's not a problem to get a WC for those you never know what opponent she's gonna get in the early rounds and how far she'll make it. She needs to get some points somewhere...

Jelena Jankovic | Maria Sharapova | Sabine Lisicki | Nicole Vaidisova
Venus Williams | Maria Kirilenko | Victoria Azarenka | Madison Keys

Re: 2011 Schedule

The problem is, with a ranking out of the top 100, the only tournaments she'll be able to get direct entry to are ITFs. I don't really see her dropping down to play ITFs, except for a very few that some of the higher-ranked players play (the only one that comes to mind is the Bronx ITF right before USO).

She'll probably have to play some qualies. Or a lot of qualies. In a sense, that's almost better than taking WCs; you get match play and points.
