Re: At home in Rome
2006 Rome finalist Dinara Safina limped through to the third round on Wednesday 76 62 against Estonia's Kaia Kanepi.
The Russian, seeded six this year, struggled with all aspects of her game until the last half of the second set, when she managed to string winners together. This was despite coming to Rome with solid results this year so far, including a tournament win (Gold Coast) and a final (Charleston).
Dinara said after the match that she felt "nervous" on court, which translated into an unending flow of unforced errors. When she hit a winner she followed it up by missing an open court, often when game or set point up. Her opponent likewise had trouble getting the ball in court, meaning that the match was overall of poor quality. Kanepi, ranked 61, hit more double faults than winners.
"If I keep playing like that I won't go far," said Dinara.
Good Luck vs Katerina
