Since other Ukrainian girl from the same year Dayana Yastremska has been having her own thread for over a year now, I think Katarina deserves hers too - even more now she's through to the SFs (as well as Yastremska) of European Junior Championships this week in U14 category.
Katarina is 14 yo, she was born on May 2, 2000 in Lutsk, NW Ukraine. She's right-handed with a double-handed backhand.
She's had a really brilliant year so far: SFist in G14 Les Petits As
(she was seed 11 and lost to seed 4 Claire Liu 2 & 4 in SF); finalist in G14 TIM Essonne
(she was seed 2 and lost to top seed Olesya Pervushina in the final - double-bagelled
); SF at G16 International Children's Day Cup
(she was seed 3 and lost to top seed Ekaterina Vishnevskaya in QF, 3-6 6-7(5)); R3 at G14 Open des jeunes Stade Francais - BNP Paribas Cup (she was seed 8 and lost to seed 9 Maria Lourdes Carle, 7-5 2-6 3-6 in R3).
She's also played 3 G18 tournaments this year: in April in Bulgaria, G2 Plovdiv Cup
, where she was given a MDWC but fell in R1 to Lana Slavica, 2-6 5-7
, & G3 Kenana Cup
, where she qualified but fell to fellow qualifier Tanja Stojanovska 4-6 4-5 ret. in R1 as well; and in June in Moldova, she qualified for G5 Head Cup
and reached QFs! (lost in QF to fellow qualifier Ylona-Georgiana Ghioroaie, 4-6 7-5 4-6
She's ranked #1447 this week, she got her 1st ranking right after her G5 Head Cup QF appareance and has a CHR of 1411.
And, as I was saying at the beginning, this week she's through to the SFs of European Junior Championships
, in U14 category, as seed 12!
Here is her road to the SF
: she had a bye in R1, beat Sofia Nami Samavati 1 & 1 in R2, Simona Borisova 4 & 1 in R3, (5)Anda Karanusic 2-6 6-3 7-5 in R4
, and Karolina Tilander (who took out (4)Olga Danilovic 3 & 3 in R4) 2 & 0 in QF.
Now, SF vs. top seed (and world #366) Olesya Pervushina.
I don't think she can win this one, but hopefully she can make it a fight, play a close set or something.
