Re: The Kichenok Sisters Cheering thread!

Lyuda fell to Diatchenko in R2, 2 & 2. I expected at least a little more resistance in that match given her great R1 win... Oh well.

Btw, twins are not playing doubles this week, which I find a bit weird, even more considering how weak the field is this week, they'd have had a decent chance for a title. Maybe they're a bit burntout.

I'm so surprised she lost actually

Looking at the odds though, Diatchenko was the favorite How?

Also, the twins did play doubles. They made the SF and then lost their SF match to Diatchenko/Gasparyan 6-4, 7-5. The twins were the #1 seeds and the russians were the #4 seeds.

Well, given the twins' current form, and Vita's form otoh, no, I'm not surprised that the odds gave Vita as a favourite. Vita's winning matches these days, contrary to the twins...

And I just looked at the dubs draw and no, the top seeds are Kalashnikova/Savchuk, and the twins are definitely not in it...

Ok, my mistake, I just realised I mixed it up with the Baku event.

Too bad they lost the dubs semi, the Russian pair is a solid one, but twins aren't even getting those good wins in doubles anymore either. Did that loss to Errani/Vinci fuck them up confidence wise eventually?

Re: The Kichenok Sisters Cheering thread!

Ranking update:

Nadiya 158 (-37 ) / Lyudmyla 168 (-12 )

So basically they're back at the same point now. Just hope both will finish the year in Top 150 at this point. That's optimistic, considering both's form, but that'd be quite realistic no? Finishing the year outside of Top 200 would be really really sad.

Thanks for the photos!

They both fell at the first hurdle in USO qualifying... against the mighty Barbieri and Duque-Marino.

Confusion will be my epitaph

Re: The Kichenok Sisters Cheering thread!

They are just HUGE disappointments. So much potential, but horrible results !

Very bad losses in US Open Q1 from Lyudmyla to Duque and Nadiia to Barbieri. Just sad

And what is wrong with their serves ? Lyudmyla 2 Aces, 7 DFs. Nadiia 1 Ace, 11 DFs

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Re: The Kichenok Sisters Cheering thread!

Well Giorgi/Minella withdrew so Peer/Bertens got in as ALTs. I think that makes Lyuda/Nadiia the next to get in the MD if someone were to withdraw. Kind of a longshot though.

Bertens didn't feel good either and retired from her singles match...

I'm not going to panic because of this. Some players develop more slowly than others, and the twins might fall into that particular category. Yes, they both still have a lot of untapped potential, but who is to say that they won't continue slowly working their way up the ranks? I don't think that it is fair at all to describe them as 'huge disappointments'. Both of them have been good enough to make it up to the Top 200 in singles and the Top 100 in doubles at just 22 years old. There are thousands and thousands of pros that play their whole careers and never make it that far up the rankings, so there's nothing for the twins to be ashamed about. With that said, I don't think that they are going to rest on their laurels. I'm sure that they just want to continue getting better and better, but if a slow road is the right one for them to take in order to find success, well, that's okay with me. Many of the players that try to take the fast road just end up hurting their careers because of it. Some players get burnt out at a young age because of the constant pressure that they -- and others -- put on themselves. Some breakdown with a career-threatening injury because they overtrain. Trust me when I tell you that there is nothing wrong with players taking their time to develop and learning from their mistakes as they go.
