Disappointing end to a nice run, though Jo did salvage some honor with a strong second set.
Overall, though, this was a good week IMHO. Three wins, only lost to a Top 20 player and even in the 6-1 first set she took CSN to deuce in most of the games. Hard to win when your opponent is serving 85% on first service. But it's good to get to play some of the game's elite to take the measure of where you are, so I hope Jo and her team will see the positive side of hanging with two highly ranked players for a set over the last three weeks.
I kid around about Jo-La sometimes, but I really do like her spirit, her quirky game and her sense of humor. I hope she can keep building on all she has accomplished this week. As I've said before, her serve is better, that slice backhand gives her an option over her iffy two-hander and she seems to have taken some of the wasted motion out of her forehand. So she really is implementing new tricks into her game and making a real effort to get better. Gotta love that in a player who could have been content to just hang out somewhere in the top 100 and collect a paycheck.
Pass the duct tape and super glue. Lena's done broke my heart one last time.
