Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Tennis Federation has uploaded a brief clip with some of the juniors at the first Fed Cup training of 2013. The 'leftie' at the start of the clip is Ulrikke Høyer:

There's also an article with photos (in Danish). From left:

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Junior Championship semi finals (to be played Saturday)

U12
(1) Hannah Viller Møller vs. (3) Mille Elsborg
(2) Amanda Rommetveit Rohde vs. (4) Alisha Ali Hussain

U14
(1) Sofie V. Bjerringgaard vs. (6) Sofia W Munch
(2) Ida Krause vs. Rebekka La Cour Hillingsø

U16
(1) Emma Rønholt vs. (4) Simone Alipieva
(2) Emilie Francati vs. (3) Frederikke Svarre

U18
(1) Ulrikke Høyer vs. (3) Kathrine Berge
(2) Amina Hadzic vs. (4) Emma Håkansson

No upsets so far at the junior championships except perhaps U14 where (3) Helena Steenberg gave a walkover (to Hillingsø). There was quite a battle in the U14 QF between Ida Krause and Helena Francati. Helena Francati won the 1st set 6-1 but Krause made a great comeback and won convincingly 16 63 61.

Agnes Ditlev fell in R2 after a long and quite close three setter. No surprise really. I still think she seems very promising. Hannah Møller (U12) seems very good (she was one of the few Danish girls who won any singles matches at the European Team Championships earlier this winter).

I'd love to see the U16 girls at the SF's but unfortunately I'm too busy this Easter. What an abundance of talents!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Junior Championship 2013, indoors, SF results

U12
(1) Hannah Viller Møller d. (3) Mille Elsborg 61 60
(2) Amanda Rommetveit Rohde d. (4) Alisha Ali Hussain 63 61

U14
(1) Sofie V. Bjerringgaard d. (6) Sofia W Munch 61 64
Rebekka La Cour Hillingsø d. (2) Ida Krause 75 61

Ida Krause (left) and Rebekka Hillingsø (from tennis.dk)

U16
(1) Emma Rønholt d. (4) Simone Alipieva 46 64 75
(2) Emilie Francati d. (3) Frederikke Svarre 62 63

Emma Rønholt (from tennis.dk)

U18
(1) Ulrikke Høyer d. (3) Kathrine Berge 62 61
(4) Emma Håkansson d. (2) Amina Hadzic 76(3) 63

The U16 SF battle between Emma Rønholt and Simone Alipieva was just as close as expected. I feel a bit sorry for Simone. She's had such a tough time since her amazing run in 2011, when she was one of the World's top ranked players. Still a good performance by Simone in such a close match. And very well done by Emma. I still think Emilie Francati is a huge favourite in the final. She defeated Emma easily in an ITF final in Norway some weeks ago. But Emma has defeated Emilie before, so I hope this final will be a bit closer than their last meeting.

Big upset by Rebekka Hillingsø in U14. She's good, but it's quite rare in Danish junior tennis to see unranked players beat top ranked players. Well done. Hannah Viller Møller (U12) still impresses me a lot.

(1) Sofie V. Bjerringgaard d. Rebekka La Cour Hillingsø 36 63 63

U16
(2) Emilie Francati d. (1) Emma Rønholt w/o

U18
(1) Ulrikke Høyer d. (4) Emma Håkansson 63 63

Doubles

U12
(2) Rohde/Jensen d. (1) Møller/Hussain 67(1) 64 [10-4]

U14
(3) Hillingsø/Francati d. (2) Steenberg/Krause 16 76(1) [12-10]

Håkansson/Alipieva d. (1) Francati/Rønholt w/o

U18

No surprises in singles: three 1st seeded players plus a 2nd seed won the titles. I don't know what happened with Emma Rønholt. That was kind of disappointing (the doubles final could also have been an epic battle). I hope she's OK. A few photos from the Championships can be seen at tennis.dk.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

15 year old Emilie Francati keeps progressing in a remarkable way. Recently she won the first Danish ITF title in almost two years, a week ago she became U16 champion, and today she won the SF at a Danish GP tournament defeating Maria Jespersen 64 64. Maria (21 years of age) has become quite good lately and has reached a SF at a 10K, and has also defeated Mai Grage recently. Maria is a likely candidate for the Fed Cup Team next month - especially since both Barbat and Ejdesgaard suffer with some small injuries. But perhaps Emilie deserves a Fed Cup spot more? I think it's quite likely that she'll be nominated for the Team although I doubt she'll get the chance to play.

Emilie Francati's opponent in today's GP final is Anna Signe Rasmussen, who had a cakewalk to the final, while Emilie has faced much better opponents. But Anna has actually become quite good lately after she's started playing pro tournaments.

Their way to the final:

1R: (1)Anna Signe Rasmussen d. (wc)Pernille Guldmand Mikkelsen 60 60
2R: (1)Anna Signe Rasmussen d. Ella Hedeboe 60 61
QF: (1)Anna Signe Rasmussen d. (6)Malene Stripp 61 62
SF: (1)Anna Signe Rasmussen d. Elisabeth Nørgaard 60 60

1R: (4)Emilie Francati d. Simone Alipieva 64 63
2R: (4)Emilie Francati d. Alma Nødskov Rune 61 61
QF: (4)Emilie Francati d. (7) Ulrikke Høyer 61 64
SF: (4)Emilie Francati d. (2) Maria Jespersen 64 64

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Ulrikke Høyer is playing a G4 ITF at Nottingham, GBR.

1R
Ema Lazic (GBR) d. (4) Ulrikke Høyer (DEN) 1-6 6-2 6-3

It's quite strange how she's never had any success in singles. It's now 11 tournaments in a row where she hasn't gone past R2 (ITF). And she's such a succesful doubles player - clearly demonmstrated by her current ITF points distribution:

Holding 4 titles, one RU and a SF is excellent. Playing dubs with a German girl in Nottingham (the German has never wone any dubs titles, so she's probably no specialist). GL

I'm not sure really. What I know is that Hannah Viller Møller is such a tiny, tiny girl. Here she's holding the Danish flag at the U12 TE Winter Cup in January 2013 (where she was really good!). She's 4 or 5 inches shorter than most of the other U12 girls! I guess she must be a pretty good player and have good skills or movements to compensate for her lack of range and power. Amanda Rohde, btw, (Hannah's opponent in the Danish U12 final a couple of weeks ago) is standing at Hannah's left (right from our point of view). The picture is not very good resolution but you get the idea:

Rebekka Hillingsø is another one of an amazing batch of girls from Gentofte (like Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt, and Helena Francati). Gentofte and their junior coach Jens A. Andersen have been really succesful on the girl's side the last couple of years.

Thanks for info Rebekka La Cour Hillingsø must be 12 or 13 at the most I think, I wonder when she start playing Junior tennis.

You got Rebekka's age pretty spot on. Her date of birth is 25 April 2000 according to her Tennis Europe profile.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Lol Wow, she has nice height on her for her age as well, reading her ranking is 1768 and U14 is 607 I don't think that so bad, I guessing when she become 14 or 15 she be playing junior tennis

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Perhaps it's also wrth mentioning that Rebecca La Cour Hillingsø is left handed. There aren't too many left handed players among the present Danish elite juniors. Ulrikke Høyer is the only one I can think of although there are a few more just below the best, like Tine Winkler, born 1998.
