Not very good, I'm afraid. There are some quite talented juniors, but I don't think it's realistic that any of these can break into the top 100 before they're 20 years old. So it's going to take at least 5 or 6 years! Unless someone pops out of nowhere (like it happened for Mona Barthel of Germany, who was quite unremarkable until she was 20).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

HRT Autumn Cup, Denmark, ITF G4

Doubles, final
Ulrikke Høyer (DEN)/Anna Signe Rasmussen (DEN) d. Emilie Francati (DEN)/Emma Rønholt (DEN) 1-6 7-6(5) (10-6)

Ulrikke's 2nd ITF doubles title of 2012 (1st was with Alipieva), and 3rd career title. This was Anna's 1st ITF title in one of her last matches as junior (she's 18 now).

Well done by Emilie/Emma! Emilie Francati also had a pretty good singles tournament here, reaching the semifinal. Otherwise the singles tournament wasn't very succesful for the Danish girls. There were Danish 11 girl's in the main draw, including Melsted (seeded 2) and Noe (seeded 4), but only Francati, Høyer, and Alipieva managed to advance to the 2nd round where they all lost, except Francati.

Results at ITF.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Regarding the prospects of another Danish top player: here is the official Danish top 20 from the Danish Tennis Association with the player's year of birth.

Danish rankings, 16 October 2012

Code:
Rank	Name Club Year of birth
 1 Caroline Wozniacki KB 90
 2 Karen Barbat Birkerød 92
 3 Mai Grage KB 92
4 Cecilie Lundgaard Melsted KB 95
 5 Emma Rønholt Gentofte 97
6 Anna Signe Rasmussen Birkerød 94
 7 Maria Jespersen Helsingør 91
 8 Malene Stripp Birkerød 94
 9 Julie Noe KB 96
10 Emilie Francati Gentofte 97
11 Martine Ditlev TC Odense 96
12 Ulrikke Høyer KB 96
13 Frederikke Svarre Hillerød 97
14 Karina I. Jacobsgaard KB 80
15 Amanda Arildsen Wessung HRT 94
16 Simone Michael Alipieva Lyngby 98
17 Frederikke Uhrskov Støchkel Holte 94
18 Kathrine Berge Birkerød 96
19 Louise Kulczycki Larsen Hillerød 91
20 Malou Ejdesgaard KB 91
Emma Rønholt is doing really well and #5 is a new career high for her. I'm always reluctant to read too much into the rankings, and it's always debateable whether the rankings are fair. Some girls play a lot, others less, and they don't all play the same level of tournaments. But Emma has been very solid on Danish soil. In 2012 she has defeated Cecilie Melsted, Anna Signe Rasmussen (twice), Malene Stripp and Julie Noe. She's still only 14 years old, and the youngest girl in the top 20 except Simone Alipieva.

The 1997-98 girls Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt, and Simone Alipieva seems to be the most striking talents at the momnt.

Note: Malou Ejdesgaard has mostly been ranked #3 or 4 in Denmark for the last 4 years or more, and her fall in the rankings is simply because she doesn't play singles anymore - not even on club level.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Nokia Junior Cup, Finland, ITF G4

1R
Emilie Francati (DEN) def. (1)Tatjana Vorobjova (EST) 6-7(5) 7-5 6-4
Margarita Shmeleva (RUS) def. Emma Rønholt (DEN) 6-3 7-5
Simone Alipieva (DEN) def. Emma Ek (SWE) 7-6(5) 6-2

Great fight by Emilie against the #1 seed! Also nice to see Simone get a good win again; she was 0-2 H2H against Emma Ek before today. Well done.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

2R
Aleksandra Buchla (POL) def. Emilie Francati 6-4 3-6 7-6(4)
(6) Antonina Lysakova (RUS) def. Simone Alipieva 6-3 6-4

Too bad. Aleksandra Buchla, btw, was runner up when Alipieva won the U12 Bambini Cup in 2010. Buchla hasn't done much since then, neither at TE or ITF level. But she's still a big talent, I guess.

The Danish juniors will now play two grade 3 tournaments in Israel (beginning November 5th and 12th respectively). Julie Noe, Martine Ditlev, Simone Alipieva, and Ulrikke Høyer are on the acceptance lists.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Apparently Emma and Emilie has stayed in Finland to play another ITF.

TATS Open, Tampere, Finland, ITF G4

1R
(1) Daria Lodikova (RUS) def. Emilie Francati (DEN) 7-6(0) 6-4
Emma Rønholt (DEN) def. Greta Kerezaite (LTU) 6-0 1-6 7-6(3)

Bad luck for Emilie; this is the 2nd week in a row she's drawn the #1 seed in 1st round! Good effort though.

Good performance by Emma against a good (and two year older) opponent. Keep working!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Stor succes for de unge pigejuniorer i sidste spillerunde af seniorernes holdturnering i går!

I Helsingør vandt de to Lyngbypiger Helena Steenberg/Simone Alipieva doublen over Maria Jespersen/Sofie Skovbo Jensen i matchtiebreak.

I damedoublen besejrede Gentoftepigerne Emma Rønholt/Emilie Francati Birkerøds Karen Barbat/Anna Signe Rasmussen forholdsvis klart 6-1 6-4. I singlekampene vandt Barbat over Rønholt i 2 sæt, mens Francati slog Rasmussen - også i 2 sæt.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The Danish Tennis Federation gave the "junior of the year" award 2012 to the U13 and U15 team who won the combined Nordic Team Championships 2012. It was the first time in 17 years that Denmark won this event! The girls on the team were: Helena Steenberg, Ida Krause, and Laura Michelsen (U13), and Simone Alipieva, Emma Rønholt, and Emilie Francati (U 15) (and 6 boys).

More here and here (in Danish).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Today Simone Alipieva/Ulrikke Høyer won the doubles title at Västerås ITF (grade 4)! Here are the results:

1R
Alipieva/Høyer d. (1) Antonina Lysakova (RUS)/Ann-Christin Nilsson (GER) 6-0 6-2

QF
Alipieva/Høyer d. Isabelle Entenza (SWE)/Kajsa Rinaldo Persson (SWE) 6-7(8) 7-6(4) [10-4]

SF
Alipieva/Høyer d. (4) Hedda Ødegaard (NOR)/Melanie Stokke (NOR) 7-6(5) 3-6 [10-7]

Final
Alipieva/Høyer d. (3) Anastasiya Shleptsova (BLR)/Tatjana Vorobjova (EST) 1-6 7-6(5) [12-10]

They were unseeded; yet they beat three seeded teams. Well done! And a nice birthday present for Simone, who turned 15 yesterday. They weren't quite as succesful in singles; both Ulrikke and Simone lost in the 2nd round. Other Danes played too, but lost i R1. This was Simone's third doubles title at ITF, and Ulrikke's fourth. They're by far the most succesful Danish junior doubles-players in recent years. Future Fed Cup players?

And just to sum up the latest Danish results: A week ago Emilie Francati was the most succesful among the Danish girls playing in Stockholm (ITF G4). She reached the QF in singles.

Barbat is also playing (in MD). GL!
