NRW Junior Open, GER, ITF G4

QR1
(1) Emma Rønholt vs bye

QR2
(1) Emma Rønholt def. (wc) Anna-Lena Linden (GER) 6-4 6-2

Well done. Emma nearly made the main draw directly. She was next in! Let's hope she can win the qualifying final. Ulrikke Høyer has a direct MD entry here.

Emma Rønholt qualified for the MD! Well done!

QR3
(1) Emma Rønholt def. Leonie Deffland (GER) 6-2 1-6 6-3

There were some errors in the initial results posted at ITF. I've corrected it here and in the previous post.

Ulrikke is seeded 6 in the MD.

NRW Junior Open, GER, ITF G4

1R
Katharina Hobgarski (GER) def. Emma Rønholt 6-2 6-3
Lidia Usinger (GER) def. (6) Ulrikke Høyer (DEN) 6-0 6-3

Emma and Ulrikke don't play doubles at this tournament.

Lots of action for the Danish girls next week: individual European Championships U18 (Cecilie Melsted and Anna Signe Rasmussen), U16 (Martine Ditlev and Emilie Francati), U14 (Simone Alipieva and Emilie Håkansson), and finally Helene Francati in Bambini Cup in Austria (U12).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The Danish girls weren't very successful at the European Championships last week. A brief summary:

U18
Anna Signe Rasmussen and Cecilie Melsted both lost their 1st match (in R2, as they had a 1st round bye). Cecilie's loss was a bit disappointing against a lower ranked opponent, but I'm not sure if Cecilie is fully recovered from that abdomen injury that has bothered her for some time now. Anna and Cecilie also lost their 1st doubles match (again in R2 because of a 1st round bye). Results.

U14
Simone Alipieva and Ida Emilie Krause both lost their 1st match in singles and doubles. I know Simone has had some minor injuries, and had to skip all tournaments on her schedule, including the Danish junior championships a couple of weeks ago, where she was volunteering as a linesperson/official instead. But this was still pretty disappointing. Results.

U16
Emilie Francati lost her 1st match (R2), While Martine Ditlev lost in R3. They reached the QF in doubles, which is actually quite good in a tournament with 64 teams. They lost the QF 6-1 6-4 against a good Russian team (seeded 2). Results.

The U16 girls in Moscow. Martine Ditlev and Emilie Francati (far right)

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

This week the Danish U16 girls are playing the European Team Championships qualies in Roehampton, UK. The Danish team is: Martine Ditlev, Julie Noe, and Emma Rønholt.

It must be great to play in England right now. Maybe they can enjoy some of the Olympics (perhaps tennis?) after the European Team Championships, which only lasts until Friday.

Tournament info (draws not published yet although they will play their first match today).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Championships 2012, outdoors

Excellent week with some great and also some really tough matches (for instance the SF's!). Here are the most interesting results:

1R (selected results)
Maria Jespersen def. (4) Emma Rønholt 6-2 6-4
Martine Ditlev def. Catrine Bjerrehus 1-6 7-6(5) 6-3

2R (selected results)
Martine Ditlev def. (2) Cecilie Melsted 7-6(2) 3-6 6-4

QF (complete)
(1) Mai Grage def. (6) Karina I. Jacobsgaard 6-4 1-6 6-3
Maria Jespersen def. (7) Emilie Francati 6-4 6-2
(3) Anna Signe Rasmussen def. (8) Ulrikke Høyer 7-6(3) 6-2
(5) Julie Noe def. Martine Ditlev 6-4 6-2

SF
(1) Mai Grage def. Maria Jespersen 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-3
(3) Anna Signe Rasmussen def. (5) Julie Noe 7-6(4) 7-6(6)

Maria Jespersen was unseeded but is an extremely powerful player (nicknamed Karlovic!), who's started a pro career. She beat two of Denmarks biggest junior talents here, Emma Rønholt and Emilie Francati, in straight sets. And she almost beat Mai Grage too. Notice also that Martine defeated Cecilie Melsted in a tough three-set match, while Julie Noe, on the other hand, had no problem beating Martine in straight sets.

The final is streamed at the moment here (with scores on the screen and commentary in Danish):

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

A lot of juniors have been playing this week.

Cecilie Melsted played a G3 in Hungary and has reached the final in dubs with a Latvian partner. The final will be played today. GL! It's actually quite surprising that Cecilie hasn't won any ITF titles yet considering that Julie Noe, Ulrikke Høyer, Martine Ditlev, and Simone Alipieva have all won ITF doubles titles (Simone and Ulrikke two each!). Cecilie lost 1st round singles in Hungary.

Ulrikke Høyer has played a G4 in Latvia. She reached the singles QF, and the doubles SF (the doubles SF was quite close).

Julie Noe and Emilie Francati have been playing a G4 in France. They both lost some very close quarterfinals which could have been won (Julie lost 6-7(6) 6-4 4-6; Emilie lost 4-6 4-6). Together they also lost the doubles semifinal (another close match 6-2 4-6 [10-7]).

Emma Rønholt has played a really good tournament at Kramfors, Sweden (ITF G5). She reached the SF in both singles and doubles, and will move up 2-300 positions on the ITF rankings (and enter the top 1000 for the first time). This was also her first singles SF. Well done by the 14-year old!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Unfortunately Cecilie Melsted lost the doubles final in Hungary 7-5 6-3.

Among other news, Emma Rønholt (pictured below) got a big win in a club match yesterday: She defeated Anna Signe Rasmussen 6-2 6-4 which secured Emma's club Gentofte a spot among the final four teams at the Championships! Anna Signe was a finalist at the Danish singles Championships a couple of weeks ago, where Emma Rønholt, incidentally, lost in the 1st round. So that's a really good win for Emma (see also post #802 above).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Oh, I've completely missed that Martine Ditlev has been playing some pro tournaments - or at least tried to qualify for a couple of 10K's in August:

10,000$ Braunschweig, Germany (AUG 20)

QR1: Magdalena Frech (POL) def. Martine Ditlev (DEN) 7-5 6-1

10,000$ Rotterdam, Netherlands (AUG 27)

QR1: Rosalie van der Hoek (NED) def. Martine Ditlev 6-1 6-2

It seems like Martine will be playing juniors again next week. She's on the list for a G2 in the Czech Republic. Simone Alipieva is also on the list, so let's hope she's fit (Simone had another retirement in a club match yesterday, so I'm a bit concerned).

Julie Noe, Cecilie Melsted and Ulrikke Høyer will play Aphrodite Cup G3 in Cyprus next week (where Cecilie has a few points to defend!).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Moser Czech Junior Open, G2

1R
Martine Ditlev (DEN) def. (WC) Katerina Brozova (CZE) 6-2 6-3
(WC) Petra Snajberkova (CZE) d. Simone Alipieva (DEN) 5-7 6-4 6-4

2R
Martine Ditlev (DEN) def. (7) Britt Geukens (BEL) 6-4 6-4

Very good wins by Martine! Too bad for Simone. No luck at the moment

Cecilie Melsted, Ulrikke Høyer, and Julie Noe are playing in Cyprus (G3) but all lost in the 1st round. Melsted/Noe are playing doubles together.

Are the girls independiently coached?

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

No, very rarely. Martine had her own coach a while (Simon Verner, who's now the Danish Tennis Association's junior elite coach), but that's really an exception in Denmark. As opposed to the girls from Eastern Europe where each girl often has a whole team around her. When the Danish girls travels they mostly have a coach from the Tennis Association along to share, or sometimes a club coach in some sort of collaboration with the Association.

Martine lost R3 but earns some ranking points.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

What are the prospects for another top 100 Danish player?

Captain Matthew Gideon: I may have an idea.
Dureena Nafeel: I don't think you've recovered from your last good idea.
Captain Matthew Gideon: That would explain it.
