Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Copenhagen TE Outdoor

We've reached the semis in Copenhagen, and only two Danish girls are still in the singles draws. Their singles results so far:

U14
1R (3) Emilie Håkansson d. Lea Sophie Golmann (GER) 6-3 5-7 6-3
2R (3) Emilie Håkansson d. Malene Helgo (NOR) 6-1 6-2
3R (3) Emilie Håkansson d. Linnea Malmqvist (SWE) 6-0 6-7(3) 6-3
QF (3) Emilie Håkansson d. (Q) Sofia Ialongo (ITA) 6-2 6-0

U16
1R (1) Simone Alipieva vs. bye
2R (1) Simone Alipieva d. Domiziana Augello (ITA) 6-1 6-1
3R (1) Simone Alipieva d. Christin Kaupper (GER) 6-0 6-0
QF (1) Simone Alipieva d. (8) Martha Matoula (GRE) 4-6 6-2 6-1

Emilie Håkansson is also in the doubles semi (with the Norwegian Line Ebeltoft Huglen). Simone doesn't play doubles this time. Simone needs a singles final to gain ranking points, but I'm sure anything but a title will be a disappointment. GL to the two Danes!

Alipieva can't play U14 anymore, right?

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

She can play U14 throughout the entire 2012. But perhaps U16 is better for her development. I guess U14 will give her too many easy matches (and U16 will also give more points, of course).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Emilie Håkansson (DEN)/Line Ebeltoft Huglen (NOR) won the U14 doubles title by walkover.

Too bad the final wasn't played but well done by Emilie/Line!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

She had 500 points and was ranked #17 before this tournament (U14 ranking). Her total points score will be 560 after today's win, so she'll probably move into top 10 again.

What's her U16 ranking? Or is it all the same when they are juniors?

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

She's ranked 108 (U16). This win should move her approx 20 positions up.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Odense GP Series, final

Ulrikke Høyer d. Emma Henriksen 4-6 7-6 7-5

This is Ulrikke's biggest senior title - at least in singles; she has a championship senior title in doubles. A lot of the best players were missing (like Mai Grage, Cecilie Melsted, and defendig champ Martine Ditlev).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Misc junior news:

Anna Signe Rasmussen and Malene Stripp have been playing $10,000 qualies in Båstad, Sweden, this week. Malene lost QR1 while Anna got through to MD where she lost 1st round. It's good to see some more Danish players have a go at pro tournaments. It's been a bit "quiet" the last couple of years with just Barbat and Ejdesgaard on the tour (besides Caro, obviously). Hopefully more Danish players will start pro careers the next couple of years. We need it.

There's a U14 Tennis Europe tournament at Lyngby this week. Many Danish girls are playing, but not Alipieva, who's playing the Senior Grand Prix tournament at KB instead. Draws for the Lyngby U14 TE can be found here:
http://te.tournamentsoftware.com/spo...8-8365361D9F85

As I said, one of the Danish Grand Prix tournaments is being played at KB this week. This tournament has a really good entry list with almost all the best juniors and seniors of Denmark (Mai Grage, Melsted, Stripp, Noe, Anna Signe Rasmussen, Francati, Rønholt, Alipieva etc.). Martine Ditlev is missing though. It will be good to see the best juniors here. I'm also curious about Jenny Herring. She's 24 years of age, and obviously not a junior anymore. She's been playing college tennis in USA for a few years, but seems to be back in Denmark for good. She's up against Anna Signe Rasmussen in R2 today - surely the most interesting matchup today.

Simone Alipieva is ranked #10 this week at the TE U14 ranking. Her win at KB moved her up from #17. She's #86 on the U16 rankings (moving up 22 positions since last week).

Upcoming events:

22 May - 27 May 2012: SEB Outdoor Open, Sweden, ITF G4
24 May - 27 May 2012: Nordic Team Championships U13 and U15
29 May - 02 Jun 2012: Estonian Junior Open, ITF G4

Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt and Simone Alipieva will try to defend the Nordic Team Championships U15 title won by Martine Ditlev, Noe and Francati in 2011. It's a good team!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Some junior news...

The finals of the SEB Tennis Cup were played today. It's a pretty big Danish U12 & U14 tournament. Results of the finals:

U12: (2) Helena Francati d. (1) Rebekka Hillingsø 6-4 6-4
U14: (1) Simone Alipieva d. (2) Ida Emilie Stilling Krause 6-0 6-0

What else...oh yes, I've been a bit worried about Martine Ditlev, so let's just talk about her a bit. She was in incredible form a year ago. She was a finalist at the Danish GP Masters at the age of 14, which is a huge accomplishment, and at the age of 15, in May 2011, she reached her career-high Danish ranking at #5 (behind Wozniacki, Barbat, Ejdesgaard and Grage)! It seemed very promising! Now, 12 months later, she has dropped to #13 in Denmark. She hasn't played much, and I've really wondered what's been going on. I'm afraid I don't know much, but at least she's still playing. She beat Emilie Francati in a club match a couple of days ago (Thursday). It's a very good result that will earn her quite a few Danish ranking points. Hopefully her form will go up to level of a year ago. Btw: She and a few other Danish juniors will play in Sweden next week. GL!
