Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

AEGON Junior International TE U14, Bolton, GBR, Cat. 1

R1
(2) Simone Alipieva vs bye

R2
(2) Simone Alipieva def. Eden Richardson (GBR) 6-3 6-1

Pretty big tournament. Nicole Frenkel (USA), winner of the U12 Orange Bowl 2010, is also in the draw as an unseeded player! Frenkel defeated Alipieva in the 1st round of Orange Bowl, as some of you may remember. Simone also plays doubles (with a British Girl).

Singles draw

Good job on updating us, angliru.

How much does a tourny like this count? Or maybe you have a link to point-distribution in these events, since I have been unable to find it.

Thanks! See page 48-51 here:
http://www.tenniseurope.org/file_download.aspx?id=28132

A SF is 75 points, a final is 100 points, and a title is 120 points (singles). You can see Simone's point distribution by clicking her name (in the draw), "view profile", and then the "ranking" tab. It's quite difficult for Simone to gain points because she has so many title wins. She needs to reach at least SF in singles or win the doubles final to gain points at this tournament.

This is a very tough tournament because there are some really good Americans who don't usually play in Europe. But they're probably here because of the "Les Petits As" next week in France - one of the most important U14 tournaments in the world! One of these Americans is Nicole Frenkel who defeated the #1 seeded player Olga Fridman (UKR) today! Simone's opponent in the QF is also American.

On the site is says Fridman won in straights, but maybe it's a mistake?

Hmm, you're right. Strange. I'm pretty sure it was the other way around when I first saw the results, because I also noticed that there were three Americans in the quarters. It has probably been corrected.

She won in doubles also, today. Unless the site got that wrong as well.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Well done! Another poster noticed that Frenkel initially was claimed the winner on the TE site (from the tournament thread):

I have to say that i'm a little surprised with the result of that match
I'm glad that I'm not imagining things

QF, doubles
(2) Simone Alipieva/Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. (6) Anastasia Mikheeva (GBR)/Katie Swan (GBR) 6-4 6-2

SF opponents are (4) Alicia 'Tornado' Black (USA)/Nicole Frenkel (USA). That will be a very tough match for Simone/Taylor (but less important than singles, of course).

From Simone's public Facebook:

I had no idea a new Wozniacki book was being published, but it must be this one:

QF

We knew this would be a tough tournament. Time to charge the batteries for Les Petits As in France next week. It will be an even harder tournament! It's a very prestigious tournament with a really good entry list. GL!

And out in doubles too! They lost 6-1, 6-1 to an american pair who has only lost 4 games this week (including this match). Guess these americans are rather good, huh?
