Re: Johanna Larsson, Duchess of Norrbotten. Thread 2.

I've been trying to track down the origin of the "Jenny" nickname. (Seems a non-sequitur for a Scandinavian.)

I tracked it down to the 14th December 2007, and on that day she played Petra Kvitova.

So, in the finest "Angie" tradition, was "Jenny Larsson" a Kvitovism?

No idea.

I imagine it's an old TF thing. Nobody knew Petra back then.

Or Johanna for that matter.

Since I wrote that, I've just recalled Jenny Lind. Perhaps not that uncommon after all.

Jenny is a common name in Sweden. Its popularity peaked in the 80s. But I don't think you would use Jenny as a diminutive of Johanna? Not in Sweden, at least.

Number of Johannas in Sweden: 72461. Number of Jennys: 47406.

Re: Johanna Larsson, Duchess of Norrbotten. Thread 2.

Rain delays in Nürnberg. They're hoping to play from 13:30, but the forecast says rain until tonight. Anyway, Johanna/Kiki are not scheduled to play doubles today.

To reiterate my suggestion from the old thread, I think Johanna should skip doubles and take a train to Paris asap. Kiki is about to play her 7th match this week, and hopefully she wins it, but a win at Roland Garros is worth more for both of them than a Nürnberg doubles title. I think Kiki could even make the Olympics.

The first has two stops in Cologne, the second is via Stuttgart. I would not hesitate to get out of there.

As an experienced train traveller, our Jo will have a transferable booking on tonight's overnight Paris sleeper.

Almost certainly.

Interesting tournament. They play the SFs the day before the QFs.
