Re: ITF Albuquerque | $75,000 | R1 vs Karatantcheva 63 64 | R2 vs Konta
It would've been nice if she had won but then again people would start expecting way too much. Honestly I'm just glad she was able to put up a fight in the third, with more match play she will get consistency in her game and pull of the win in these types of matches if she stays healthy hope she keeps looking up!
After reading comments and all it's definitely disappointing.
But this was her first tournament in 4+ years... The fact that she got a win in the first round was already great.
Konta is the 4th seed of the event after all, even if her game is not than impressive.
I understand the hopes getting after that first set, though.... And her missing those GP at 4-4 and those break back points at 4-5... Ouch. Second set sounds like she completely psyched out for that period of the match, which coming from Nicole is not that strange.
As she plays more matches not only her game will continue to improve but also her mentality. She should take the positives and learn what she did wrong this week and try to make up for it in Las Vegas next week.
I hope she plays a bit lesser ITF after these ones tbh... Some 25Ks and even 15ks is not embarrassing.. We know she has high expectations for herself but at this point what is important is to get match play and confidence.
I know I've already said it tons of times, but it feels so surreal and good to have her back. :crying2:
I'm not finding this week disappointing at all, she won a match and then made it very competitive against the 3rd seed and nearly Top 100. After so long without competing, she will need a little time to adapt, take her marks, find out what's not working in her matches (it's often different stuff from practice), work on it and rebuild her confidence and competitiveness.
It's not gonna be easy, but I'm full of hopes and I believe in her 100%! GL in Vegas, Nikkie! cheer:
