Should Nicole get a new coach?

What do you guys think? Should she get someone else to help with her game? Or maybe just someone to help with the mental aspects? Or no one new at all?

Re: Should Nicole get a new coach?

I think someone else should help out because something has to change for her to start reaching new heights. But maybe we/I'm expecting too much too soon.. I don't know.

Re: Should Nicole get a new coach?

Are you sure this thread is not a result of your disappointment caused by Nicole's early exit from Charleston? Look at your signature and ask yourself whether Nicole's results are alarming enough to start finding a new coach.

Or are you refering to hiring a special coach who would work on a particular aspect of her game, like fitness or mentality for example? Because you surely know how it goes with fathers and daughters in womens tennis. In that case I would have no objections but if you were thinking about split with Ales I would not say it's the best idea because most likely she is not ready for such a big change in her life. Besides it's not even necessary now.

I think Nicole works well with Kodat.

I'd love to see her work with someone different for the mental aspects of her game, since that is what's holding her back.

Re: Should Nicole get a new coach?

There is no reason to be alarming.Nicole still have great results this year and she's learning with her game but it happens the results don't show this change sometimes. She's not consistent in her whole game but she's one of the best teenager out there.

We have high expectations as she shown her best tennis early but Nicole is not a "finished product".As Alex is her step-father, I guess they certainly share a special relationship and she trusts in him.It wouldn't be good for her confidence to split with him and I don't see her doing that. For the mental aspect of her tennis, she just needs to mature.I think she already said she was in contact with some people who was helping her to get better in it.

In conclusion, Wait and see her on clay.It was her first semi-final in Paris, I don't think she will do as great as she did but it will be a good mean to size up her abilities to cope with real pressure.

Re: Should Nicole get a new coach?

I wasn't asking just because she lost this week at Charleston. I'm not too worried about that loss anymore really. And like you guys said nothing alarming about this year - Nicole has performed well in many tournaments and reached a new career high ranking. I guess it just comes from frustration of lost matches in big situations since last year. Just wondering what others thought about it.

I agree that it is unlikely for her to part ways with her father so I guess the question about a whole new coach is too drastic. But for how much longer is she gonna be content with just beating the players she is supposed to beat and then losing to those ranked above her... So because of that I think Nicole should work with someone else to help improve whatever the problem(s) may be.

A new coach? I don't think so.

I don't think she needs to split from her dad, but I just don't see how people at Bolleteri's haven't changed her groundstrokes, especially her backhand. I hate her technique on her backhand.

Anyway, I think she needs a sports psychologist.

Yep.Her backhand is awkward.I guess it's too hard to change your technique once you have learned it because you clearly see it's the first thing she needs to work. It's a pity when you even know someone like Krajicek can trouble Nicole on her backhand.

I agree, her backhand technique is certainly not the most solid.

I also feel that Nicole just isn't mentally ready for that next step. That's what's holding her back right now more so than her form. She's always going to have "off days" but she needs fight through them more often, that's mental most of the time.

But I don't think she needs a new coach, at least not yet.

Re: Should Nicole get a new coach?

She had nice technique on her backhand when she was a junior. Now she tries to muscle it too much and her stroke is just ugly sometimes.
