Cool Hana Mraz

She was born on Feb 8, 1998 in Kranj, and she seems quite good!

I actually noticed her when she made the SFs of the U16 European Junior Championships in Moscow on clay last July. She got very good wins over Nina Alibalic (2 & 3) in R1, Anastasia Detiuc (0 & 2) in R3, and Dalma Galfi (who is now a Top 10 junior player, won 2 10Ks in a row in Heraklion last fall + Eddie Herr in November, and just made the SFs at the AO this week) 1-6 6-4 6-3. She lost a really close match to Anna Blinkova in SF, 6-4 6-7(6) 2-6. She probably had MPs there...

She also made the final of G2 NWU-PUKKE/RVTA Junior 1 in South Africa on hard last March, with very good wins notably against Maia Lumsden (5-7 6-1 6-4) in QF and Katie Swan (4 & 4) who now is in the AO final btw. She fell to the top seed Johnnise Renaud in 2 TBs in the final, 6-7(6) 6-7(0).

She started 2015 in a great way, winning her 1st career G18 tourney last week in Slovenia. G4 Krka Cup in Otocec - she destroyed fellow Sloven Veronika Erjavec (who is almost 2 years younger ) 0 & 2 in the final.

She played the G2 Slovak Junior Indoor 2 weeks before, where she lost in R1 to Karolina Novotna (5-7 2-6); and the week after she made the QFs at G1 Czech International Junior Indoor Championships: she had a bye in R1 as the 10th seed, beat Weronika Forys 6-1 7-5 in R2, Hanna Kryvatulava 4 & 4 in R3, before falling to the 2nd seed Aleksandra Pospelova in QF, 2 & 2.

This week she has a new CHR of 104. So she's nearly Top 100 already, hoping for a great 2015 now, with great scalps like last year, but also more consistent results (enough with the R1/R2 floppings to randoms )!

Re: Hana Mraz

Btw, I think she has a really cool name. But it sounds Czech to me, and there are actually tons of Czech girls named Hana Mraz (I looked up ), I wonder if she has any Czech origins or if Mraz is just a common surname in Slovenia as well

Re: Hana Mraz

Two weeks ago, Hana played G1 Mediterranee Avenir - Casablanca. She was seed 5 there, and made the QFs. She had a bye in R1, beat Natalie Kallmunzerova 4 & 4 in R2, beat (10)Jodie Burrage 2 & 0 before falling to the eventual champion (2)Bianca Turati, 1 & 4 in QF. Turati didn't drop a single set till the final.

Last week, Hana made the final of G4 Bavarian Junior Championships. She was the top seed there, beat Tijana Spasojevic 1 & 2 in R1, Leonie Kung 2 & 4 in R2, (8)Emily Appleton 4 & 2 in QF, (Q)Jule Niemeier by WO in SF, before falling to Lara Salden in the final, 4 & 4.

It's also a Slovenian surname, as well as a word.

Wasn't there also a French player with the same family name?

If you think so, you haven't been paying attention. I'm spreading awareness. This is problematic. Russia. This is not normal. It's 2017. Watch this space.

Re: Hana Mraz

Hana played 10K Koper in Slovenia the week after Budaors Cup. She received a MDWC there, but she drew (4)Julieta Estable (18 yo, junior #15 and WTA 576) in R1 and lost 3 & 4 to her.

Then, two weeks ago and last week, she played 2 G2s in Serbia.

First, G2 ITF International Pancevo, where she made the final. She was the 2nd seed there, beat Andjela Sebrek 2 & 2 in R1, Ena Babic 2 & 3 in R2, (LL)Hristina Djokic 4 & 2 in QF, and (3)Amina Anshba 1-6 6-4 7-5 in SF, before falling to (4)Ema Lazic in the final, 6-4 6-7(5) 3-6.

Then, last week, G2 Serbia Junior Open in Novi Sad, where she was the 2nd seed too, and made the SFs. She beat (Q)Andreea Prisacariu 2 & 2 in R1, Jovana Vukovic 3 & 3 in R2, and Andreea Amalia Rosca 6-2 7-5 in QF, before falling badly to 14 yo Olga Danilovic in SF, 1 & 2. Danilovic is very talented though, and has a potentially huge game. She won the tournament beating the top seed Minca very easily as well in the final.

With all of this, Hana broke into the Top 50 for the first time this week, at a new CHR of 48 (+6)

Re: Hana Mraz

Hana is playing 10K El Kantaoui this week, she qualified for the MD and she double-bagelled some Indian lucky loser in R1 today

It should be tougher in R2 as she's gonna face 2nd seed Kathinka Von Deichmann (21 yo, WTA 455, CHR 309)

Re: Hana Mraz

Hana is playing again in EK this week with a MDWC, she double-bagelled (Q)Shivani Manchanda in R1, but just fell to (8)Chiraz Bechkri (a few months younger than her, WTA 661) in R2, 6-7(2) 2-6
