Re: Clay-court Season 2012
Gisela out already
Never is match practice more necessary than in the crucial points. And when you have dominated a match from beginning to end, only to falter at the last and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it feels as if fate is dealing you a cruel blow. Even the best are sometimes not spared this indignity, and this was the case on Wednesday with Gisela Dulko, former No.29 in the world and No.1 in doubles who has twice made the fourth round here at Roland Garros. The Argentinean has been struggling with injuries for the past year and simply fell apart when she had victory in her sights against the newly-naturalised Serb Vesna Dolonc. Having whistled through the opener, Dulko served for the match at 5-4 in the second set only for nerves to set in. She could barely get her services over the net and finished with a double fault to hand her opponent a lifeline. And thus it was that Dolonc won eight of the next 11 games and took the match 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a shade over two hours.
